But there is some fluctuation - as you almost always get in manga with lots of chapters - she is often drawn about 1-2 inch taller, just above Hino's shoulders.

And as people mentioned- she is wearing heels here too.

^There are chapters without that stuff but with some comedy that i wouldnt call relationship chapters.

The only chapters i can think of off hand that would qualify for that would be 64 when she is taking care of the sick Hino, and some early chapters like 8- and 24 for sure. Then 10 and 63 and 25 nearly count too- maybe a few more..

Well, I almost, and should have, added "misunderstanding the other's feelings" to the "dismissing their own feelings" part, which would knock out Chapter 8, and 10 has the "joke" about couples under the umbrella.

But you're right about 24, 63 & 64 (although in 63 it feels like a gag when Hino passes out after Koguma blows on her spoonful of porridge).

I don't mean to quibble about this; it's just that to me this really did feel like the first chapter that could have come out of a straight (in genre terms) romance story, without a gag or boke-tsukkomi exchange hovering in the background (maybe, as Zormau suggests, because the whole thing takes place in public).

A lovely chapter, in any case, and let's give it up for our courageous Little Bear.

My money is on Kogu taking that step and kissing Hino, cause that would be a nice twist and, well, who doesn't like a reversal?
Kind of fits with how hesitant and self conscious Hino as become as of late

I mean, after these last few chapters - the last 2, specifically - there's no way that we aren't on track for some great development. Koguma clearly understands that 'things can't be the same', but thankfully, the ending shows that at least their relationship isn't destroyed, as sad as a wasted summer is. Now, they can only move up from here.

Yeah that's fair, but I'm not that big on prom either. The fact they're so ubiquitous in fiction is why I'm tired of seeing them. They feel oversaturated in the genres for me, at least by this point.

I couldn't disagree with this more strongly. This series has always been just fine with Hino and Koguma, and the last thing I want is a new (or even old--you listening, Omichi?) character interposing just as Kogu is screwing her courage to the sticking point.

The sudden shift in tone is really odd to me. Like, it feels like it happened so suddenly. Like suddenly out of nowhere they're super conscious of each other and 3 weeks passed with no interaction? Very odd.

I'm not against it tho, cause I can feel us actually moving towards some kind of payoff, which yesssss
