What a bland ending. I'm just glad it's over, this really felt like a bowl of sugar. Sweet at first, but gradually more and more painful as you keep eating it. It's left me feeling empty as hell, too.

I sadly kinda have to agree. Long struggle with so many cute and masochistically fun "gotcha" moments and then a rather rushed ending. Still, looking forward to potential extras when the final volume comes out.

This series clearly didn't have a plan outside of its initial premise. Just dragged itself to the finish line repeating the same things like groundhog day--status quo until the end when suddenly everything changes just in time to end the series. Now they'll never have to write beyond the premise. I'm sure they feel a sense of relief.

…Oh, it’s over huh. I feel like this could’ve had an extra chapter or two to really sell the finale but all of it in one chapter feels really rushed and unsatisfying.

The pathos just ain’t there, is it? The emotions feel all wrong in this last chapter. Like, it doesn’t really sell the characters personalities at all. If you’ve read any generic yuri manga/wlw fanfic you’ve seen this confession before. Eeeeehhh? It’s not great.

Them having yet another misunderstanding at the very end feels like a joke, like the author is making fun of them, and I want to laugh but it’s just kinda irritating.

As someone who was super pumped to follow this story because Childhood Friend romance is the most exquisite flavor of romance… yeah this really fumbled. A whole bunch of Kanbayashi Makoto’s YouChika works just got translated, go read that if you want better Childhood Friend yuri. Or any of the dozens of MioxRitsu doujins.

It feels harsh for a series I was liking so much but yeah I think I gotta say 4/10.

I'd also throw in Our Yuri Started With Me Getting Rejected in a Dream by Hijiki as a better alternative for childhood friend romance. Still ongoing and suffice to say it doesn't end at the confession or a kiss.

Minami's group of friend felt like a wasted potential tbh
They are the best part of this manga. They provided enough support, as long as Minami needed or asked for it but they also maintained a good boundary with Minami's personal life. They didn't treat her love life like some sort of amusement to gush for.

With these sorts of series, what often happens is that the publisher wants them to drag it out until, one day, they suddenly decide that the writer has one or two issues to wrap it up before it's gone. This is why series that are planned to be shorter often end up being much more satisfying

Oh, now Yuzu gets it? I said last chapter that the only way Yuzu would realize that Minami was in love with her was for her to console Minami after an awful heartbreak, only for an irate Yuzu to eventually demand the name of the person who broke Minami's heart and get the answer "Makita Yuzu."

This entire manga has thoroughly and completely established that no matter how many times Minami would tell Yuzu that she loves her, Yuzu would misunderstand some way. It doesn't matter how much of a stretch it is, Yuzu is that stuck in denial that she's living in her own reality. A reality that nothing Minami did would break her out of.

So not only did this one chapter somehow magically get through to Yuzu, her only reaction was happiness rather than shame or regret at what she's done. Alright fine, Yuzu is absurdly emotionally blind and Minami actually loving her is technically her dream so I suppose I'll forgive her for that.

Nope, Minami rightfully demands to know why Yuzu was rejecting her up until now and Yuzu's response is to blow it off with reference to the time she got "rejected" by elementary school Minami. No realization on Yuzu's part that she just subject Minami to the heartbreak she supposedly felt back then, not a lick of shame or regret. Just a little embarrassment as she deflects her failings onto Minami.

I said this last chapter and I'll say it again. Minami deserves far better than Yuzu. She should go out with someone that actually loves her, rather than Yuzu who claims to love her but doesn't actually care about her.

Look I understand this sounds harsh, but I do feel it's deserved. I've defended other neutron star protagonists/love interests before cause they usually have something about them that shows they actually care about the person they are blind towards. Yuzu on the other hand would look better if she was simply sadistic, instead of the practical sociopathy we got.

She was better when she was "mysterious"--when all we'd get were stares and closed fists in frame for about 15 chapters. Weird but at least then you could imagine ways to fill in the blanks and pass it off. But like you said, once the details started coming in, it became harder to accept.

This whole manga was me going "alright that's kinda stupid but it would be really cool if this thing happens next" and then the opposite happens lmao, I see you got that experience as well

i... honestly kind of liked it? i agree the ending was rushed, but if anything i thought yuzu was very sympathetic. she was just missing (or didn't trust her ability to read) all the social cues, and tbh felt very autistic. with a better conclusion this could have been a solid work, and i was surprised how much i liked all the side characters by the end too. reminded me of girl friends (morinaga milk) in many ways, but i guess that's why? like, this is more "classic" in terms of yuri writing, and if you ignore the art style etc it could've easily been a 00s work.

yes it doesn't reinvent the wheel, but imo it was cute and a fun enough read. i've read stories waaaay worse than this and yall are grossly exaggerating. like, has anyone here ever tried to read sasameki koto? shit is 99% filler, it's downright painful. i'm someone who generally does not like childhood friends in yuri at all, and will even root for the ship that isn't that in a love triangle. it's kind of overused and rarely done well. but when it's cute and i like the characters involved, it's not bad. i'd rate this a 7/10, personally. it was better than i expected. i'd like to see more from the author as they refine their craft

Foinally. The Dynasty title says [END] but the 2nd to last page says to keep our eyes out for "the final volume." Does that mean there is more of them together? I doubt it, but double checking.

Think Girl Friends, Sasameki Koto, and Sweet Blue Flowers embedded themselves too deep into memories. There were actually popular stories back then that went well past the confession stage:

2012: https://dynasty-scans.com/series/candy
2011-12: https://dynasty-scans.com/series/prism
2010: https://dynasty-scans.com/series/kimochi_no_katachi
2008-09: https://dynasty-scans.com/series/hanjuku_joshi
2008-11: https://dynasty-scans.com/series/president_and_vice_president

+Morinaga Milk's "Kisses, Sighs, and Cherry-Blossom Pink" from 2007 (no longer on the reader)

Even 2003-2009: https://dynasty-scans.com/series/strawberry_shake added a few post-realisation chapters.

Okay, but there are popular stories more recently that have gone beyond confession.

Citrus, Whispering a Love Song, Kase-san and Yamada, Anemone In Heat, arguably Bloom Into You, Can't Defy the Lonely Girl, Please Bully Me, MagiRevo (esp novels), WataOshi (novels), An Aside Told to You, Blue Star On That Day...

You are one of the few people I've encountered who has recommended Kisses, Sighs, and Cherry Blossom Pink. I feel ancient because no one ever talks about it. It's one of my OG favorites. I read it as it was being scanlated back when it was only a one shot and then grew into another one shot, another, a fourth one shot, and then a short serialization.

Can't tell you how happy it makes me to see it getting a recommendation. Thanks!!

Ugh.

Okay, that's a good ending, but now I demand 20 chapters of them being roommates and Yuzu topping to compensate for the neutron star denseness we've been treated to, particularly ch23 and ch24.

It got bad enough to the point that Minami's friends thought she was going to off herself that one time when she went to clean up the roof...
