I fucking love Narita.
Hands down th best male character in any yuri manga.

Came here to say: Narita, who we all first thought (yes, I did too) was an evil plot device called Jerkface is actually an angelic plot device called Uber-Wingman.

And maybe the most adorkable school principal in yuri?

Narita x Principal! I ship it :>

Totally!
Narita and the principal as a wingman duo working together to bring Oosawa and Mitsuki even closer. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ ) Nice!
Also I just discovered that The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy At All has a Wikipedia page too. pretty cool!

From jerkface to having to save the relationship all by himself. Narita has come such a long way :,-)

Clever plan, but backfired spectacularly with the principal leaving it all to him... :D

Because of the, themes of age and youth and love of western music…

Petition to change this manga’s unofficial title to “smells like teen spirit” sign here:

How appropriate haha.

If this series starts incorporating 80s teen movies I’m so here for that. Definitely looking forward to a Promposal :D… Mitsuki has serenaded Aya on her guitar what’s next? standing outside with a boombox like John Cusack?

So many of the characters in this manga have beauty marks, Arai-sensei must really have a thing for them lol. Not that I blame her--Mitsuki's beauty mark really complements her appearance and gives her face a distinctive charm.

(laugh) He's the worst principal I've ever seen and I love him.

(Actually, he's not even close to the worst I've seen, he's just kinda bad in a sort of likable way)

Sensei sure is going pretty far in the ''this is the special kind of love'' now, without outright saying it quite yet, at this point at least. Narita goes so far as to call himself a cupid and the whole prom trope is deep in romantic symbolisism. The cynic in me is starting to have a real hard time believing we're going to get the rug pulled from under us in the yuri department at the end :P

Is this even a question? Like the chapter just before this one was explicitly about Aya talking about Mitsuki in romantic terms and her friend Chiharu realizing that's who she's been talking about. Even before that there was the chapter where Aya told Mitsuki to her face that all her feelings for "onii-san" apply to her. Imo there's absolutely zero ambiguity that Aya is full on in romantic gay love.

I'd like to think so, but there's still a non zero chance that we won't get a clear resolution IMO. Time will tell I guess!

I've had my suspicions that Sumiko-sensei might be American, and this puts a lot of credibility to that lol (if there's any interviews about it, I don't know but I'd be interested to read) I mean, what western teen show DOESN'T have a prom arc; I can imagine her lamenting the idea that she couldn't write one for her characters, then going "Wait, this is my story! Of course they can!!"

love Narita so much, he is absolutely best boy and is just living for this love story just like all of us 10/10

Prom does have some untapped potential as a yuri trope. It's weird that I've never thought of it.

She's Japanese, but spent at least part of her childhood in the west due to her parent's work and is fluent in English. Years back on twitter she said she'd tweet in Japanese and English because that's what's comfortable to her. There's an interview where she talked about feeling lonely at first when they moved so spent a lot of time listening to her dad's music and specifically Beck and Nirvana (https://yoi.shueisha.co.jp/body/culture/6900/3/). She was also a Glee stan which would narrow her down as a millennial. If I had to guess it would be the UK though because of some obscure local bands references, vocabulary, and UK orgs she's had merch for like WWF.

God, if we get a glory shot of Mitsuki entering the gym in full suit for prom I (and... all of the female characters in the school) am going to FUCKING MELT.

Don't some of the classic "it's a fancy lady school to train young lesbians errr ladies" manga have prom-like events ("graduation ball", that sorta vibe)? Can't say I'm entirely sure but feels like something I've seen before...

Well, it's mostly an American thing. Japanese lesbians have aquarium dates.

"I have my exam prep" -- Short for, "Ah, right. That's why Japan doesn't have prom."

It seems nobody here shares my disappointment in this development. It just feels like such a contrived way to move the plot forward. I'd rather this was resolved with a conversation or something, instead of an "event", shoe-horned into the story, this time literally only for the sake of developing the relationship of the mc's.

What I love about him is that he’s mostly kept all his character traits. He’s still a noisy doofus that likes to meddle in others business, but because he’s able to actually take a hint and aspires to be an ally in addition to god’s most special little boy he’s really entertaining.

He feels like a character right out of a teen sitcom, and for his archetype he’s the perfect pick to plan a prom.

Talking is boring. Proms are fun.
