Oh, I wasn't expecting that the whole "her place is littered with dead bodies" opening would be brought up again.

It's kinda funny now that she's called a murderer because back then she seemed completely unaware of what death even is, she thought all the bodies were sleeping.

I call it the curse of Action+Yuri series. :-( Almost all manga I've read that combined those genres got axed before their time...

It feels like there's little overlap between the audiences of the two genres, so a series that tries both ends up unpopular in either...

As much as she's been helping Ren with her troubles, looks like Matsuri has more of her own still hidden...

And rather big ones, as we've now seen...

I guess that's why she got divorced and lost custody of her child, and can't go back home because her family disowned her. And maybe her needing a lot of money is related to that.
I was thinking whether or not the author could make Matsuri mostly innocent, though made a scapegoat by someone else... But it wouldn't really fit the story, would it? A big theme I'm seeing is unconditional acceptance, it's the main reason Ren feels comfortable around Matsuri (and nobody else) and while they offered it back, the news might make them at least demand an explanation (if anything, just to they can be on the same page about things). Matsuri being innocent or framed would work pretty strongly against that theme...

vaguely remember a longer story about roommates who were struggling with money. one was a voice actor who was the youngest sister for some drama, but it got cancelled and she lost her income source

Sounds like part of The Two of Them Are Pretty Much Like This, but I don't remember them struggling with money that much.

Some sci-fi stories have written about this kind of "teleportation" and it's always full of existential dread

Aurora killed Lapis and is pretending to be Lapis? I don't follow how the comments got to that one.

Early on we got a flashback from Lapis of her bloodied hands before a dead body. She also considers her "whole existance to be just an act", and from her conversation with her father, they are " 'parent and child' ". So we know she's (probably Aurora) pretending to be Lapis.

I doubt she actually killed her. The original Lapis is probably the one who had foresight, and when she saw Aurora in danger she went to rescue her and died before her as a result. So Aurora convinces Lapis' father to let her take her place, or maybe she's forced to, who knows.
