And like, I don't even dislike the ending it just doesn't really fit the rest of the story. So yeah, in a way I can totally see this was the ending Yatosaki Haru was set on from the start. She did not change it even though as the story evolved she probably should have. Regardless. I still liked it overall, I'm not letting a clunky ending drag things down.

Honestly, the ending could have worked fine as it is, the author just needs to work on pacing a little. Compressing everything from the truck to Lily sacrificing herself into one chapter completely obliterated the pacing and made both the sudden tragedy and ultimately happpy ending feel more confusing than anything else. If they had stretched that out over 2 or 3 chapters (plus maybe another chapter to let Mai angst a bit before revealing Lily was still alive), the ending would have felt far less abrupt, and there would have been more time for viewers to adapt to the changing tone of the story. It might have required them to tighten the story in other places, but the results would have been well worth it.

Ultimately, for a first attempt at creating a long-form story, this was pretty good, but there’s a lot of room for improvement.

I agree with this - it's a good story and overall I liked it, but (as said above) the pacing was not handled as well as it could have been, and it's Chapter 19 (IMHO) that really throws the pacing off.

I really enjoy Yatosaki-san's artwork and story concepts, so I hope we get more just a little better put together in terms of plot pacing.

I enjoyed that, though Ch19 did stand out as a little "different" to the rest.

Absolutely... well perhaps not every band, but it is something that does happen quite a bit and I think it's reasonable to conclude that's what is happening her.

This is the reverse situation to the school prom, where in that case it was Mitsuki saying she wasn't going but then turned up.

I think that Mitsuki knows that the band, as it stands, is not right for her but she seems not to have the confidence to move on. I hope Aya turning up will give her the push to change things around.
