Nice. So pretty much like I said. Entire point of it was just to make Fujishiro reflect on everything, but Kurokawa becoming stronger and more honest was also nice as well. With this I guess the path to yuri is finally open. Also I like the implication that third friend will probably ditch other 2 and start talking to Fujishiro again.

Eh, there's a superficial similarity in that they both employ a lot of the same (hardly rare) romance tropes but this series definitely has its own unique feel to it and focuses on themes that Girl Friends never addressed.

Whatever the teacher said, she shouldn't have assaulted him physically. Sure, maybe he's on a power trip, and sexist to boot, but the way to handle this kind of abuse is through parents. After all, in Japan, they are the ones paying for High School.

In any normal setting, she would have faced a disciplinary committee and handed a worse sentence than just a week suspension.

You're naive if you think the guy would have so much as received a slap on the wrist for what he did. It's a male adult teacher's word vs that of a female student who was also breaking the rules at the time. If anything the likely result would be the two girls getting singled out as "trouble makers" and they would then spend the rest of their high school days with that asshole and any other staff member he has connections with breathing down the back of their necks looking for any excuse to bust them.

Particularly In high context cultures the one thing you never do is rock the boat unless you are damn sure you have enough irrefutable evidence to utterly destroy the person or group of people you go after because they will stomp you out for it afterwards if you leave them standing.

Of course, punching the guy was an even worse idea.

why can't the people at this website just settle down and enjoy the yuri? those walls of text are only found on this website! it's like it's their duty to complain in every yuri manga at every little damn thing! breaking news! not every yuri manga has to be a masterpiece! this is sad because this is my favorite website where I can find some lovely yuri at one place and forget about everything else, but those people are ruining the enjoyment.

So read the yuri and not the comments.

Here, have my permission to enjoy things other people might dislike, hope it helps!

if it's not trolling or mindless complaints, it's always interesting to discuss the work in the comment section, even if it's not in a positive light.

But I also wish people who are posting huge walls of text would be more mindful and consider such comments make it hard to navigate in here and keep up with all the parallel discussions.

Well I always saw the detail that apparently, Fujishiro haven't any sexual experience, just a normal boyfriend before without done nothing than a kiss and that (also, he used her like a second option, so that said too much, besides that the manga didn't reveal anything else about it) (I don't like bisexual stories) and while the story didn't show up nothing, then there is nothing else....
.
Talking about the chapter, it was really good, and apparently, Fujishiro start to feel something for Kurokawa, and the same she to her...and the thing that Kurosawa is begin to leave the fear it's a good development...this going okey

Izumi is the best. Go Izumi. Seemingly the most normal character in the series. Izumi! Izumi! Izumi!

As a wise man once said: "You made my girl cry, now you die."

In all seriousness though, Fujishiro overreacted and we all know it. He said some bad stuff, but it was pretty superficial and falls in line with his job of disciplinary (read totalitarian) control. Don't counter verbal transgressions with physical violence, no matter how angry you are.

On the other hand I am very happy that Fujishiro gets mad on her behalf all the time. Her inner turmoil is overshadowed by how much she likes Kurokawa. This could so easily devolve into her rejecting Kurokawa just because she is jealous, but instead she appreciates her more.

This is pretty much my take on the whole thing. I mean, actually hitting the teacher was like one of the worst ways to go about it but I did like how it showed how much she cares about and wants to protect Fujishiro.

One if the things I’ve always thought odd about society was the idea that physical violence is never ok, but verbal “violence” is. In this example the teachers words could potentially create an emotional scar that could take years to heal, while his bruise will heal in a week. Not to mention how high Japan’s suicide rate is. A large chunk of the cause is probably due to bullying. The main issue with bullying isn’t the physical pain, but rather the emotional and mental pain.
You also have to think about how to resolve an issue without violence, you need the wit and influence to do so, and if you don’t then all that’s left is violence.

Can I just say that this chapter (9) really elevated this manga in my eyes? Not only did the author dodge the possible "multiple chapters of them not having a heart-to-heart about what happened" trope and instead allowed the characters to explain their emotions (as well as they understand them--the poor baby gays) to each other, they also took a critical step of spelling out that the connection characters' motivations really extend beyond trying to look cute. To this point, the manga has seemed to put a lot of emphasis on the importance of what a person looks like, which might seem shallow and unworthy of writing about (to say nothing of the potential harm such a piece could cause given all the fucked up social standards we have around beauty); however, what Kurokawa says in her little outburst made it clear to me that the author knows better, that the characters' preoccupation with beauty belonged to them and was not the author's position on the issue, and that the real point of their efforts to improve their appearance was to become stronger, more confident, and closer to each other--and in those things lies the value of the search for beauty.

I'm really looking forward to where this manga goes from here: I no longer have a firm sense of what quality level of authorship we're looking at here, and I hope I'll continue to be happily surprised as it progresses.

The gradual changes in the characters' looks have made this manga quite unique, and the story is still promising, as long as Izumi turns out to be "just" a good friend, not part of a love triangle... (Dear My Teacher worries.)
