Probably reading too much into this, but is Kanna pregnant?? Mitsuki asking about Kanna's health is nothing special, but Joe saying "she's even working" implies that's she's in a state where it wouldn't be expected that she's working.

So... PREGNANT?? Or maybe dealing with a cold or something, but I like the pregnant theory lol

That or it's the weekend.

I'd go with weeked - "she's even working today", so implying that she normally works other days.
Also Joe is apologising for disturbing Mitsuki early at 8am - on a week day I would have expected them to be up and about at that time.

Translator note: Aya now calls Mitsuki with her first name instead of "Koga-san". And Mitsuki makes a show of calling her "Oosawa-san" when speaking with Joe, but then, at the end, calls her "Aya-san".

The fact Mitsuki still uses a polite "-san" speaks volumes about who's on top.

For me this means that Mitsuki is on top but maybe I am misinterpreting your tone and you mean that Aya is on top?

Thanks for explaining this. I assume they made the switch to first namessome time during the timeskip, which might have been nice to see in the actual story.

From what I understand, in Japan, it's not entirely unheard of for married couples to use "-san" on each other, especially if the addressee is the older half of the couple, or the addressor is particularly polite. I could be wrong, though.

It means that Mitsuki is more "respectful" toward Aya than Aya is toward Mitsuki.

Which implicitely means that Aya is "higher" in the hierarchy and "on top". Though I thought it was obvious all along the manga...

How you call someone carries very subtle implications in Japanese culture, because it's very hierarchical. Foreigners often trip on that and can inadvertently belittle someone without realizing it.

On some rare occasion when I worked in a Japanese company, I would use the form "first name+san or kun" to address certain workers I am close to them. There are people whom I was close to, either on equal footing, or I am the senpai. Of course you need to have personal outside work connection first. Last name+san is always correct. The only exception of me using first name+san , is when the named person is my senpai and explicitly told me to call him that. 9 times out of ten they are pretty much americanized.
Speaking of which, I think it is time that those two should stop playing prude and at least start to snuggle nakid...

Ahh, I love this. These kinds of moments are exactly what I was wanting since they got together, and it involving Uncle makes it even more fun.

Local woman found dead from embarrassment.

Reports say her girlfriend was on the phone with her uncle when he overheard the woman saying she wanted to cuddle more. Her girlfriend reported her passing shortly thereafter.

What I've wondered about is the tradeoff between familyname-chan and personalname-san

That's the secret. You steal all the blankets so if she wants to get warm she has to go through you. It's called cornering the market, sweaty

I am sorry I thought you were making a word play implying that Mitsuki was topping Aya, and Mitsuki still using -san was similar to the cookiness when a Kouhai tops her Senpai and is still very polite. Thanks for explaining! though I already know about that stuff, I thought what you said had a double meaning, I have my mind in the gutter lol

I was going to say Joe probably wouldn't tease them about this, but he would definitely tell Kanna and it would be dereliction of duty for her NOT to tease them about this!

lol, still easily embarassed.

Calm down, Joe knows what's up. :D

Ha ha. My version is that Joe was like "Aya said the funniest thing during the call... I wonder what that was all about" and Kanna gave him A Look and said "Joe." and continued staring at him until the penny dropped and he clued in.

Good for Joe; you can tell he's acclimatized well to life in the States, because he's holding his phone like all the dipshits here do.

Ah yes, Standard American Dipshit Phone Holding, or SADPH. All Americans learn this in school.

What are you talking about? That's a normal way to hold it if you have speakerphone on.
