Spent 3 months in Japan in 2019. While I have no memory of what places did or didn't take credit cards, I do see that very few expense lines were with credit card. Though I also see that I sometimes used CC at a restaurant I went to a lot, but mostly cash; ditto a grocery store. So sometimes they did take CC but I was just part of cash culture.

I also apparently paid cash for a $145 Shinkansen ticket? I would be skeptical and think I left off the 'cc', but it's immediately preceded by an unusually high ATM fee.

Vs. lots of CC lines in Australia. Probably would have been even more if I'd had a 'tap' card at the time; I didn't, and think I had to sign a lot, which deterred me.

Eh, different people have different needs and comfort zones. I can't truly walk in somebody else's shoes; who's to say what makes me feel empty doesn't make someone else feel full?

It’s just like most stuff, it’s good enough (mp3 vs flac, streaming vs bluray, etc). We’re programmed to just seek out comfort, not necessarily the quality of it. Yes it would be missing that wholesome feeling when you don’t have that connection but for most that’s enough. Pretty sad to think though living life without ever getting to that next level because most are just so content with what they have now.

In non-straight circles, hooking up happened whenever they could not even date openly, because of feeling ashamed or worse, there was a threat of ostracism/abuse/violence looming over those who tried to be open. Some pretended to be straight and got married, and had the relationship they really wanted in secret behind the curtains.

Second reason is that they just can't find a person who is romantically compatible and available, but they still crave for intimacy. Dating pool isn't usually that large. So shacking up with someone who at least accepts them physically is the next best thing.

It's actually initial sexual attraction and sex that often helps creating those loving connections. Not everyone gets crushes, but many do.

People have already responded, but it really is just different strokes for different folks. I don't need LOVE, but I do need some kinda connection, usually a friendship. But sometimes you take what you can get, right? Or sometimes things just... happen. Though that IS a funny story about how I basically met my girlfriend at an orgy.

Even in this manga though, everyone seems to have SOME connection, except for the one person who met her the previous day, but she falls in love super easily, so there's still that connection there,
