Half the oneshots on this website are basically what I described,

Oneshots tend to be notoriously limited in the page count at the author's disposal which in turn tends to oblige certain narrative abbreviations. Longer-running series have a lot harder time pleading that defense for obvious reasons.

Hehehe, I know. Recently, I see this a lot.

There was a time, yuri authors didn't care about such details. The stories were about the romantic feelings a girl could have for another girl. And if the feelings were returned, then we would see a kiss scene -- or maybe even a sharing-a-bed scene that hinted at sex without showing too much. That was about it.

In recent years, things have changed. Both the authors and the readers have a much deeper understanding of the real life issues a lesbian relationship entails. Also a much better notion of how lesbian sex works. That's why practical details like the problem of having long nails tend to appear way more often in yuri manga now.

(I think the first time I saw this issue tackled was in Sweet Guilty Love Bites... the MC, who was a hostess at Club Lilac, took a homeless girl to her apartment, they started chatting, and then this girl suddenly said "Oh my, Miss Hostess, look at those nails, you can't even masturbate like that! Since you've been so nice to me, let me repay you with my fingers and give you a few orgasms!" Lol.)

I don't think that's the literal definition of melodrama. Sure there's melodrama the casual insult, but there's also melodrama the genre, which is a term without qualitative charge and can combine just fine with the word "good". Both senses might fit Liberty for my mileage, but only the latter fits Sasameki Koto.

If you don't consider exaggerated drama as a bad thing then that's fine, I am not here to judge your tastes, but a meoldrama is by definition unrealistically overdramatic.

It is indeed by definition unrealistic and dramatic, but you were the one who initially framed melodrama as a sort of drama with shortcomings (for being too exaggerated). Sure it can be that sometimes, but the term also refers to a genre that has been object of many studies and also includes some outstanding works, such as the films by Pedro Almodovar. It's possible to be melodramatic with purpose.

Finally, they do it and not drunk this time too, which is a big plus. Morinaga Milk is my fav yuri mangaka of all time so I'm always happy to see anything she puts out.

The two characters remind me far too much of grownup versions of Hana and Hina... right down to the one who knows she's gay thinking that the other won't want to be with her even if she's willing to do it with her. "Hana and Hina many years after school"?

hey! the raws came with the pages numbered that way. as the editor (for ch 6 not 5) i can say this is probably a holdover from the story’s pagecount in the magazine it’s originally printed in. idk about the other editor but i just didnt bother to change the page numbers; there’s no special meaning.

i swear to god everything morinaga milk creates is 100% yuri gold.
