I dunno this just felt very forced. Maybe it's an issue with it being it being a oneshot but it reads like a series of contrivances rather than a story about characters. Didn't feel a thing from it.
That's about how I felt. The individual elements are fine-to-well executed, but their pacing and the way they're introduced robs them of any impact. I think the biggest issue is the reveal that they'd met when they were younger, with their roles somewhat reversed, since it's a major element that comes out of nowhere and resolves the main tension in the story.
I want to say the problem is compounded by the reveal coming near the end, and thus not leaving enough time for a meaningful reaction or secondary plot, but it happens before 3/4 mark and this is a decently long one-shot, so that doesn't seem entirely accurate. Maybe it's more that the remaining pages aren't well utilized coupled with how sharpely the reveal and page 28 cut-off almost all the threads that lead up to them.
I don't know. That analysis also feels off.
