Also presumably this way they only have to pay one person instead of two, although that may be beyond the level of an editor's concern.

From what I've heard, the total pay is the same regardless of how many people work on it. Basically, it's not the people that get paid, but the manga that gets paid for and how that pay gets divided among the people working on it is up to them.

At first I thought Tadokoro would be sad and angry at Nikaidou because, when asked about their relationship, Nikaidou denied that they are girlfriends and said they are just friends.

Then I realized that Tadokoro and Nikaidou are probably on the same wavelength when it comes to coming out... Tadokoro is prolly very happy that Nikaidou kept their relationship out a secret.
