I hope meguru and azuki have a proper talk . I wouldn't be upset if theur end game after all . It seems meguru does still love her too. So maybe by properly talking they can heal together

Those two really should not get back together. I always hate it when a story rewards carrying a torch for years and years, but Azuki in particular has been deeply unhealthy in her obsession. She needs to get over Meguru and move on.

I think all serial yuri should go back to being 2 volumes so people stop being weird about "the axe" or expecting absolutely ridiculously ballooning scale like it's a Shounen Sunday Sale

I think a two volume limit is very restrictive and not a good idea. It's over correcting and limiting in a massive way.

But this is what I mean, you think there is not enough development so it has to be axed. using Devilishly Girlfriend again as a example, before the author notes, everyone said the same, that it was too abrupt and that Haru was a experienced author, so it was obvious it was axed because the pacing was weird, and how good it would be if she got the length she envisioned for the manga, when she planned the story to be like that Years Ago!
A work that is coming to end having more potential in your eyes is not the same as being axed.
When people ask for proof of the axed, usually someone link a tweet saying “My work will end in the next issue!” and like, every mangaka announce that. I am not saying some works are not axed, maybe this one was axed! but the forum constantly does that with no proof every time a story don’t live to their expectation.
Sometimes people have to accept that authors can have bad pacing (not that I agree) or simply not put them into a pedestal that make them believe that there has to be an external reason (axe) for the story to not live up to the author (didn't live up to their own expectations of the author)

In my case I have seen authors saying their work was made to come to an end and feeling apologetic towards readers but again, most of the time the proof of an axed is not that, is a tweet announcing the final chapter and all mangakas announce the end of their works with a tweet.

Hey, for the protocol I've been sceptical of those rumours. Acknowledge my superior intellect!

But anyway, it's less a matter of whether it got axed, but rather of how much time the author had to prepare for the end. Every manga must come to an end (unless you're One Piece, I guess) so it has to wrap up somewhen somehow.

With 17 chapters, we get a neat 3 volumes (vol. 1 has slightly longer chapters). And I can't believe that Yuri Hime commissions serialized work on a chapter-by-chapter basis (that might work in the exploitative webtoon space, but not when you have to plan ahead for your physical print magazine), so it stands to reason that Usui Shio knew it would be the final volume for quite some time.

Needless to say, there's a world's difference between "drop everything you're doing you have exactly 30 pages left to write a satisfying conclusion" and "please storyboard to reach a finish within the next half year". I wouldn't be too surprised if this indeed got discontinued (for it is very different to Usui Shio's usual niche), but that doesn't meant the series doesn't get to have a graceful exit.

Both of her series are ending, which makes me wonder if she had very bad magazine luck or if something in her life made her cut things short.

Or both could have been meant to be shorter series. Who knows.

Make it three. She had another series (het) that ended last month.

If she finished 3 of her series she might want to take a break, I didn't know about the straight one so I don't know if it was also at the same time, but having two ongoing series is tiring. The other option is that she has signed for a longer series in a magazine.

To me this feels like it was meant to have 1-2 more volumes, just counting what was started. That's not counting any new characters or plot points the author may or may not have had planned, which seems possible since the author has some longer series.

Stuff that was hurriedly resolved:

  • We went very "Tell, don't show" in terms of Meguru valuing the sister relationship. It was implied earlier in Meguru's internal thoughts and Meguru was on friendly terms with Remu, but we mostly saw Meguru acting judgmental and isolating herself. Learning how to be a good sister like Meguru wanted could have been integral to Meguru's growth.

  • Speaking of that, someone many years into bitterly isolating themselves and being mean to people would normally take longer to change how they act. In Meguru, it's like a flip got switched. This can happen in a minority of real life cases, where someone has an epiphany and suddenly changes their behavior, but in a story you would normally set it up more to make it feel more satisfying.

  • Azuki like I said hasn't even been that nice to Remu. Azuki simultaneously being mean and needy led to Remu feeling like she needed to take responsibility for everything, despite Remu being the high schooler. Azuki having some self awareness about this, realizing how much she values Remu, and gradually changing her behavior to take more responsibility for herself would have been more satisfying.

  • Niji's backstory has been almost entirely subtext. We roughly two panels of Niji taking care of her mom, the class referring to Niji as their mom, and the class talking about Remu "leaving the nest" (implying she relies on Niji at school), but we haven't seen any of this. This has led to many readers having no idea why Remu would even like Niji or want to interact with her.

  • There's no way Niji's arc is going to be handled in a satisfying way now. The most we can get is another "Tell, don't show" conversation like with Meguru.

  • Remu's self acceptance arc never really happened either. Someone on mangadex pointed out that the dad would have known about the doll sucking, but Remu believes her new mom doesn't know. Either the dad must have kept is private or Remu is wrong and they both already know. There is so much family dynamic potential here that we never saw. Since Remu is keeping secrets from Azuki, it is not possible she could feel like Azuki completely accepts her either. If anything, she should feel vulnerable and be terrified of Azuki cutting her off, like with her original mom.

What this all feels like to me is that it's ending exactly as the author planned, but the author is having to speedrun all the character arcs. They will be resolved it by the characters describing themselves and then saying what they are going to do, rather than with a real narrative arc, the like of which the author has repeatedly shown themselves to be capable.

I will say it's possible this was a planned end. If I think about how many series this author had, it's possible they simply wanted to focus elsewhere for instance. Either way, I would have liked to see more.

Oh~
A chapter about them facing each other Dx

...?
Sorry, I feel like something is missing so.
I don't think Azuki san is a needy and meanie to Remu san. They met in a shop working as part timer, so both of them are work acquaintance.
Azuki san was found out her secret hobby by Remu San who happens to like doll figurines. In order not to let the secret out, Remu san asked Azuki san if she could make her her own figurines instead (she even paid her).
Azuki san at first refused, but Remu san insists, so they end up meeting in the karaoke room and let Azuki san measures Remu san so she could feel and make the figurine dolls for her.

Of course, at the end, both of them realize that they could accept each other's secret and become good friends.

So far.. that's my understanding.
I'm sure Azuki san isn't a needy and meanie to Remu san.
That's all.

I love the friendship between Remu and Azuki so much TT_TT I loved the reconciliation between Remu and Meguru so much TT_TT I do think realistically I'd expect someone like Meguru to need a lot more time to make so much progress, but still, that scene made me so happy. Azuki finally being able to bring herself to mold Meguru's face and the first attempt coming out so ugly also made me want to cry happily. I'm so proud of Azuki, and so happy and proud to see her reach out to support Remu when Remu needed it in turn too.

I kind of hope Remu/Azuki isn't endgame only because I'd rather if Remu remains a person who doesn't have the capacity for attraction to another person, and is still able to reach the resolution and fulfillment and acceptance in her personal relationships as she has with Azuki and Meguru already. But I'm already satisfied, so ultimately I think I'll be satisfied with any outcome when it comes to which ships are or aren't endgame. An ending where no one gets together and they all remain friends also feels plausible to me, and I'd be happy with that as well.

I'm not super big on diagnosing characters with psych jargon, but Niji's stuff does make me think of maladaptive daydreaming. And ofc stalker mentality as has already been pointed out. I'm on the edge of my seat full of anticipation for the conversation with Remu next chapter...

It's in the preview for the next issue of Yuri Hime. Next chapter is labled as the last one.

Just a heads up that the upcoming chapter from this month's issue (ch17) is NOT the last one, but next month's apparently will be. I'm guessing it was either listed as the final chapter last month in error, or they gave the author a little extension.

The last chapter was always in two parts, that's why.

She's literally denying reality to take refuge in her own delusions. So there's gotta something going on with her.
