I really love how Remu responded here. Like fundamentally this story is about girls with different kinds of wants that are “disgusting” in different ways, and about seeing through what may seem repulsive on the surface to what’s going on inside. It’s about learning to think past your disgust. And critically, this extends to all 4 of the main cast members. Not just the sexual disgust of the main two, but the moral disgust of the girls we could call antagonists. There’s this ugly desire in us to want to see these people punished for doing wrong by the main pair, and the manga is asking us to take that same measured generosity to them as well. We’re not expected to just let it slide—in both cases, we see very clearly how the things they do are wrong, and the most heroic moments of the story are the main characters defending their space, setting boundaries, and critiquing that behavior—but it also doesn’t settle for the self-indulgent route of emotional vigilantism, of punishing what one receives as wickedness, but is in fact disfunction. Instead we are shown that these people have disgusting impulses inside them that come from very understandable places, that hurt them as they hurt others, and that that is a very human thing that doesn’t discount their humanity, or make them unworthy of love. In a society preoccupied with cutting away impurity, it’s a profound and deeply important act of compassion to accept the ugly and diffcult parts of oneself and of others. And that’s the virtue that Remu is displaying here: whether or not Niji can successfully take the hand that is being offered is up to her. It’s really beautiful.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
really hope this gets picked up again one day. I really like all three couples, especially the moms. a lot of bdsm media likes to act like doms are smooth and confident and void of any doubts or complications in their relationship to kink and sex so I really appreciate characters like Sarasa.
even when Houjou can't see SEN's face and they put on an old lady voice, Houjou is still into them
this is some looney tunes shit in the best way possible
I love the friendship between Remu and Azuki so much TT_TT I loved the reconciliation between Remu and Meguru so much TT_TT I do think realistically I'd expect someone like Meguru to need a lot more time to make so much progress, but still, that scene made me so happy. Azuki finally being able to bring herself to mold Meguru's face and the first attempt coming out so ugly also made me want to cry happily. I'm so proud of Azuki, and so happy and proud to see her reach out to support Remu when Remu needed it in turn too.
I kind of hope Remu/Azuki isn't endgame only because I'd rather if Remu remains a person who doesn't have the capacity for attraction to another person, and is still able to reach the resolution and fulfillment and acceptance in her personal relationships as she has with Azuki and Meguru already. But I'm already satisfied, so ultimately I think I'll be satisfied with any outcome when it comes to which ships are or aren't endgame. An ending where no one gets together and they all remain friends also feels plausible to me, and I'd be happy with that as well.
I'm not super big on diagnosing characters with psych jargon, but Niji's stuff does make me think of maladaptive daydreaming. And ofc stalker mentality as has already been pointed out. I'm on the edge of my seat full of anticipation for the conversation with Remu next chapter...
It's such a trip to watch someone on this forum get upset on behalf of a husband character because his wife will supposedly leave him or cheat on him in a later chapter. I wonder if it's a first. Ohsawa Yayoi might be breaking new ground in ways she doesn't even know.
kind of brings me back to good old Netsuzou Trap again. though I'm not sure anyone was ever rooting for Yuma and Takeda to be endgame, I think the consensus was largely just that Takeda deserved better than to be caught up in that mess
I honestly think this is pretty interesting writing. The first six chapters never show Hana's perspective, which builds her up as a mysterious, confident antagonist. The first time we do actually get to see her inner thoughts, she's confused and clearly misread the situation, which just makes her pathetic and immature instead. It feels very true to how real people seem like they're in control at first but are really just messed up inside
this is about how I feel as well. I really enjoy when I feel like a series successfully bait and switches me. we very much view Hana from Hikaru's lens of her to start with - which is to say, we build up a very strong idea of her while really knowing nothing about her at all.
about Hikaru's obsession with Hana despite not knowing her, I feel like what Hikaru is attached to is the feeling of adrenaline she gets from her attraction to her. I don't think that this is necessarily a wrong feeling of 'love,' but it's certainly one that's easier when it's about something other than a person. being in love with the rush of performing, or rock climbing, or something like that. I can sort of understand it intellectually, but I can't totally relate. for me, I think that feeling afraid of someone and feeling unsafe with them, the way Hikaru currently does with Hana after getting jerked around by her, really quickly leads to any feelings of love dying off. but characters don't have to feel exactly like I do, and it's more interesting sometimes when they don't.
this isn't uncommon on this site, but it really struck me reading through the comments on this manga how many of the discussion points that come up are about tropes and trends, and not about the content of the manga itself. stuff like "the pressures of comphet and small town culture clearly forced her to marry him," "Hikaru will be the only one to understand Hana and love her for the real her," not to say that I think there's no validity to these things as speculation, but we really haven't seen them on the page at all?
I prefer some toxicity and drama so I was prepared to be disappointed by the relationship being less toxic than advertised, but I actually really like the progression of this story. both characters are really compelling and distinctive and I like the dynamic between them. there's sort of a believable amount of distance between them still, but also enough of a sense of closeness/feeling comfortable with each other that I can buy into feeling like the relationship will work out in the long run
Violet can also clearly afford to dress fancy for someone who allegedly has to price gouge just to keep afloat. I don't know how much this series is actually going to seriously get into it, but it is funny to note.
I like her though, and every other character so far. I like that she does seem quite sincere. It's quite a straightforward series so far, so I feel like any character who is too dishonest in this cast will end up feeling kinda disproportionately 'worse' than the rest. Like this the plot continues to move forward pretty smoothly, rather than getting derailed by a total falsehood. Though ironically this means that she's arguably more honest than Frost so far... lol...
I really like Shion, she's so cute. I'm not really into cute schoolgirls, so it's always a blessed day when I get to read yuri with big rough adult women... really, I like most all the character designs, the variety is fantastic. I love how expressive the art is and the sense of comedic timing is just right for me. I'm definitely reading more from this artist.
