Series so good that reading the newest chapter of it ended the emotional self-harm episode I've been having for the last 18 hours

Someone please complete Umi's thought for me. Not exactly sure what she wanted to say.

Never expected I will ended loving an extra chapter.<3. I just hope whatever Umi meant on that last panel, she will be able to communicate it with shou in the future.

umi my poor baby with an anxious attachment style... This extra took place between volumes 5 and 6 meaning that whatever she's worried about still hasn't been addressed and has just been festering this whole time, im sure it's nothing :)

She wants Shou to initiate; Shou then does this by asking to hold her hands. That's why we get the pause on Umi's face as an interruption of her thoughts. She's touched. So it ends happily. The "problem" is pretty much resolved there.

I think at least part of it must also be the fact that at this point of the story they're technically "super friends" or whatever you want to call it, certainly adds at least a little bit to insecurity. Shou actually saying out loud that they're pretty much girlfriends already was only ch18.

Hmm... I actually like this change (retcon?) establishing that there was more of a basis of physical intimacy to their relationship than we readers might have assumed... But I still just wish this extra was created closer to when it takes place chronologically. That's just because I'm really picky and "perceptible lack of a pre-planned plot" is my biggest fear when reading ongoing manga though lol.

ANYWAY this dovetails really nicely with the emerging arc from volume 7; my reading was that Shou is unnerved by her own feelings of desire that spark when they touch each other, not simply reacting to an unfamiliar situation. This extra giving Umi a little uncertainty on her side too suggests that the story could be heading towards the sort of strong emotional climax I would like, I hope!

Right, it's the contrasting match with the scene on page 4 when Shou pulls her hand away. Umi thinks it's about holding hands, but Shou is just self-conscious about the way her hand might smell. But on the way back Shou has gotten over that because of Umi's previous reaction.

Oh, i did saw on pixiv that the new vol. Came out but as the translator app on my phone became crap due an AI update, it was harder to understand the notes from the author.

So this means that the new Volume will not be submitted as is no longer technically free?

OMG, Umi's face when Shou gave her the chocolate was too good.

And dang, poor Ibu's got it bad. The series has made no secret of her having a crush on Umi, but this chapter is probably the most obvious its been.

Long chapter or Knight heron is spoiling us. Anyway, it's analysis time!

We learn that some students commute by bus. We'd previously seen Zumi seem to bicycle up from somewhere. Reinforces that this isn't a boarding school per se, just a school that draws some people from far enough that they have to find a place to live -- affiliated dorms for Umi et al.

(I was re-reading Chapter 21, and noted that Umi's mother seemed out of touch with Umi's studies. But, right, Umi lives in a dorm in another town, it makes sense that mom wouldn't know anything Umi hasn't told her.)

lunch table: Team Nae-Zumi-Umi at one end of the table. Ibu next to Yosshi, and in a good position to keep an eye on Umi.

When Umi gets roped into friendship chocolate, Nae and Zumi seem to go "what?" and sweatdrop respectively. Do they suspect Umi has a girlfriend? Has Umi told them off-page? (I sure hope we didn't miss that.) Sadly, we don't revisit this.

In the chocolate scene, I thought "Ibu is really self-centered", but then we see her latch onto Umi's favorite -- which we do revisit, as she leaves some for Umi later! Anonymously. Ibu capable of selflessness, or just self-defeating?

Poor Ibu getting hand-fed by Umi the Ladykiller.

(Then there's Zumi, who feels obliged to go along with the secrecy, but resents it.)

Umi's little brother seems a lot bigger than I remember. Did he growth spurt since the summer?

Makki gets a last name! Matsuki. Is Makki a nickname based on that? Given trends, her name might be Matsuki Maki, with Makki the nicknamified version of Maki.

I feel SO BAD for Ibu, it's hard enough being gay when most of your friends are straight but even worse when the girl you're into isn't but is already in a relationship.
Like a tiny bit of hope is there only to be snuffed out.
