While reading that bit on the last page of the chapter, I wondered did the author really reference all those Hollywood movies, or did the translator just replace Japanese movies movies with English ones to make it more relatable to western readers.

this was such a sweet (hehe) series. v happy they got to have their happy ending, but honestly the fact that lili came back immediately and there wasn't really any downsides makes me wonder why chapter 19 happened at all. like i get that she lost her devil powers and all that but they really didnt play a huge role in the story outside of the first couple of chapters in the first place. either way i really enjoyed this one and I hope the author does more yuri in the future

honestly upon rereading i think this series is totally unfairly maligned, like yeah the ending drags on a bit and yuzus entire rationale for just staying friends is dumb, but it has a really enjoyable cast of characters and is entertaining the entire way through. I maintain that if the last volume didn't take like, 4 months to come out then people would complain abt it a lot less, it feels way less dragged out when you read it all in one go.

Also not to bash the authors other work but oh my god this series is so much better like even just comparing the first 7 chapters the characters are so much more interesting and the relationship is 10x more compelling. The characters in the other series (confessions for a moron) don't have nearly as much chemistry w each other and the plot feels so much weaker, like my favourite part abt this series is how the characters are written and their relationships to one another, i don't get how the author dropped the ball so hard w the next one

man the start of that chapter fucking sucked to read, i hope xioyangs father kills himself. i cant tell if the narrative is trying to frame xioyang as a trans woman, or if theyre legitimately just a cis boy who likes wearing womans clothing (personally i think the second option would be much weaker but ill admit im biased)

glad to see that, just because theyre on the same page feelings wise, komaki still isn't exactly looking for a healthy relationship fdskjfhfs. this was honestly a really sweet chapter all things considered, big fan of komakis sobbing possessive breakdown of a confession

i get that it's likely a remnant of the past from back when mizuki's gender identity was more ambiguous, but i gotta say as someone who is transgender it does suck to see the non-binary tag still being slapped onto this pairing (i get that its there alongside the transgender tag, but i think it being there at all takes away from the fact that she is, in canon, transgender and not non-binary (i also get that it's never technically been confirmed outright, but it's literally the only way her story in-game makes sense and it doesn't have to be said out loud for it to be canon)).

Mizuki's story is such an unambiguous portrayal of a transgender character and to see her being labeled as non-binary because of project sekais translation team choosing to dance around her identity and degender her constantly sucks

Pancho asks Shima if she likes girls and she said no, despite the latter being in a wlw relationship. If it is not the super old yuri trope that somehow refuses to die then what is it ?

Ok i can sort of maybe almost see how you came to this conclusion (still not really) if we view this chapter in a vacuum, but taking the entire rest of the series into account it falls apart (also im p sure shimamura was saying no to the "what a hottie part" but i digress). Shimamuras answer revolves around how she's viewed relationships up until this point.

Shimamura has spent the last few years of her life believing herself to be a fundamentally unkind person, and expected the rest of the world to just pass her by. Because of this, she hasn't really put much thought or effort into any of her relationships, familial or platonic (this is actually outlined later in this chapter when pancho says "you don't seem the type to take interest in anyone"). Earlier in the series (at least in the novels its been a while since i've reread the manga) in volume 6, shimamura talks about how, to her, human relationships are something almost inconvenient, becasue of this, I can't imagine shes had many nuanced thoughts about her own sexuality.

The way I interpret it, is that when shimamura says she's not interested in girls, it's because she's not particularly interest in anyone romantically (aside from Adachi). She wasn't even really fully aware of the scope of her own feelings for Adachi until Pancho pointed them out to her in this very chapter (this is its own topic but i'm not going to get into it right now).

What it all boils down to is that this is the first time in years that shimamura has actively cared for someone like this (Gon doesn't count), and so she doesn't really have a frame of reference for if she likes girls or not.

this paragraph is the main part that contradicts what you're saying, so you only really have to read this, but the rest of it gives a more solid argument I'd also point out that the trope you're referring to typically is "straight girl makes an exception for one lesbian" but there is absolutely no mention of guys when shimamura says no to Panchos question, i don't think shimamura has even interacted with a single male character her age in the entire series. It isn't "shimamura only likes guys except for adachi" it's "if not for adachi, shimamura wouldn't like anyone romantically"

I hope this makes sense and answers your question isn't just me rambling :)

(coming back to this bc im kind of afraid ive painted shimamura as some unkind uncaring person when that obviously isn't the case (plenty of evidence all throughout the series to prove that she isn't), it's just that she herself believed she was an unkind uncaring person)

this chapter really highlights how aroace spec shimamura is tbh. Its honestly a huge part of her character and defines the way she views her relationship w adachi especially up to this point in the series.

I'd say that her being arospec is actually a core component of the series, and i'd go so far as to say it wouldn't be the same series if she wasn't. The majority of the series, esp up until this point, is about shimamura trying to grapple w her relationship to adachi: how it's different than her relationships w other people, why adachi wants it to be different, and if she (shimamura) wants it to be different.

her entire perspective on relationships is shaped by her being arospec, and since shes the main character the entire series is seen through that lens and i adore it. arospec representation is honeslty so hard to come by, and having it be done so well and so naturally is a testament to Iruma as a writer

I feel like naming Lily's mother "Eris" was a v deliberate choice because Eris is the greek god of strife and discord famously being responsible for setting off the trojan war. clearly this means this series will soon spiral into a story about international conflict and tragedy on the battlefield

hinata reminds me of hibiki from hello melancholic even down to her designed I honestly feel like hibiki is a huge inspiration for her character. Pretty musician barges into girls life and knocks down the walls she's built up around her and forces her to play music w her, also just her overall vibes feel the same (this is a great thing for the record i adore hello melancholic)
