I feel like naming Lily's mother "Eris" was a v deliberate choice because Eris is the greek god of strife and discord famously being responsible for setting off the trojan war. clearly this means this series will soon spiral into a story about international conflict and tragedy on the battlefield

hinata reminds me of hibiki from hello melancholic even down to her designed I honestly feel like hibiki is a huge inspiration for her character. Pretty musician barges into girls life and knocks down the walls she's built up around her and forces her to play music w her, also just her overall vibes feel the same (this is a great thing for the record i adore hello melancholic)

i wonder how long manga will go on? i may continue the novel along with it but i dont remember where i left off

i don't think we've been given a solid end point for the manga but after volume 10 of the LNs it stops being as much of a linear narrative and starts jumping around the timeline so it wouldn't shock me if thats when they called it. I don't know if they'd ever adapt SS, 99.9, or SS2 which is unfortunate bc those have some of my favourite moments in the entire series (99.9 final chapter and SS2 final chapter in manga form would be the end of me holy shit) but like, anything could happen

Well, volume 8 is technically the ending. I'd expect somewhere around there would be a natural stopping point.

yeah but if thats the case then we're like, two or three chapters from the end and i dont want that to be true sdfjdksfhsfsjk

LOL Yeah, I think we'll go a bit beyond that at least. We should at least have a whole new volume.

one more volume would make sense to me, they'll probably skip a majority of vol 9 the hino and nagafugi chapters specifically, as much as i love those two the manga hasn't been giving them the love they deserve and then do most of vol 10. the last chapter of vol 10 feels kind of like a second ending to the series to me so i think it'd be a natural stopping point. id really really love for them to do past that but idk i just don't see it happening for some reason (yuzuhara moke please please please please prove me wrong)

trans rep in yuri is always so nice to see even if the poor girl is going through hell right now. Xingyuan seems to be supportive of her, and the story is definitely framing her dickhead father as the bad guy so at least she has that going for her

umi my poor baby with an anxious attachment style... This extra took place between volumes 5 and 6 meaning that whatever she's worried about still hasn't been addressed and has just been festering this whole time, im sure it's nothing :)

christ these fluffy chapters make me hope so so hard that these two will get a happy, easy relationship with no box cutters but i know that's just wishful thinking sdkfhsdj as long as it doesn't end in tragedy I'll be happy though

Which is bound to fizzle out??? Apparently every young couple who faces any awkwardness is doomed now.
I like the “alien child” (whose name is Yashiro, you’d know if you payed attention to the story). You’re coming at this as if the manga has to prove something to you instead of reading it for fun. Room temperature take

I mean yeah, most young couples are doomed. Most couples period are doomed. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and it can be interesting to read about couples that might not work out.

Given this story is highly introspective and obviously trying to elevate itself above the typical surface level plots of many other mainstream romance manga, I think it's pretty obvious the author is trying to prove something. Which, good! Easy, fluffy, rote stories can be comfy, but I'd much rather read something by someone who feels they have something to prove. However, this naturally invites readers to more deeply analyze the story. Which is also good! Engage in dialogue with the stories you read!

I think the characters are very well written, but the overarching narrative and a few of the specific decisions made, at least in this adaptation (again, I haven't read the LN and fully believe it might be done better there), feel incongruous. If the narrative hadn't directly spelled out that these characters were supposed to be soulmates, I would find a relationship between these two kids trying to navigate growing up while dealing with these enormous hidden feelings more compelling. I don't (yet) buy that their personalities are a good match, that they can truly mutually support one another emotionally, that they're willing to grow for themselves as well as each other rather than just enable this codependence they seem to be developing. Like I said, maybe that growth will come. But they're kids! I wouldn't expect them to be capable of that level of relationship at that age anyway. Personally, I assume that lots of the relationships I read about in manga - especially school age manga - will end one day, but that the characters will have grown as people as a result of those relationships.

As for Yashiro, she has yet to contribute to the narrative as presented by the manga. I'm not saying you're wrong to like her, but her presence or absence in the manga would have no meaningful impact on the story or characters thus far. I hope this changes, but to me, she comes across as an unjustified gimmick.

I think a lot of the issues you have w the manga get ironed out in the LNs. Shimamura's internal monologue gives a lot of insight into her as a character and how she views this relationship, and while they do their best to put the super important parts in the manga, there's a ton of stuff that's omitted. Similarly as pointed out, Yashiro's character gets a lot more attention in the manga and the world just in general feels more alive if that makes sense (hino and nagafugi get a lot more focus, even receiving entire chapters dedicated to their goings-on). Also like, this series is all about how adachi and shimamura's relationship and how it grows into something beautiful, as well as watching how the two progress as people, it definitely takes time but watching them get to a healthier place is so definitely worth the payoff. If you are interested in reading the LN's there a really good translation by Sneikkimies online that has all of them translated (except SS2 the most recent one it's only half finished)

seeing the anime tag, to the people who reads this, do you think this deserved an adaptation? I remember reading a few chapters when it first came out and it didn't grab my eye at all, like too many stuff was happening with several characters doing nothing at all.

but maybe i'm wrong so, what do you think?

Like, there are a million yuri series' more deserving of adaptations but I'm still super excited for this one fskfjshd. It's a personal favourite of mine and it looks fucking gorgeous. I'm not sure how they'll adapt the sort of all over the place way this story is told if that makes sense but I'm excited to find out :3
