You think this is meant to be another timeskip since the roommates chapter? I think they're both set a few months after Aya started university as she's still mentioning how surprised she was to see Narita there and their new friend had never seen Mitsuki before.

yuri purity wars on social media against other series

Oh yeah I love this series but people on social treating it as "the good Yuri" in a very purity based way is always exhausting and frustrating. I genuinely worry what the fandom is going to be like when the anime comes out. It's also ironic because a lot of the super purity types that claim to be "good " because of their constant policing of media and enjoyment of it tend to be very toxic.

Honestly makes you feel like a fake fan of you act that way both of the series and Yuri in general.

I might be more alone in this take but I genuinely hate how this series is often just reduced to being called " the green Yuri", it feels really reductive.

Two years after the conversation about the refrigerator would just make them 19 in the last chapter. Drinking age is 20 which necessitates a jump. Her drunk talk with Narita felt more like a how-we-met run down in front of Narita’s new friend who didn’t know her yet. So she talked about her early first impression of Narita in high school and how they ended up at the same college back then.

If this was just a few months into their freshman year they wouldn’t legally be drinking in a Japanese bar.

It feels more like a short nickname than anything that nefarious to me.

Yeah pretty much every series with a longer name has a "fan name," or a name for search and hashtags like "Magirevo," "MahoAko" etc. Japanese fans have one for nearly everything.

The official short name is Kinioto, but Green Yuri or TGSWIIWAGAA, at least as a sm tag for the second, has more traction outside of Japan.

Yeah, because Kinioto doesn't roll off the tongue in English as well as Green Yuri but still another cool nickname/shortened version of the Japanese name. I did forget about that one, though.

Another similar one is Arioto as a substitute for "A Yuri Story in Which a Girl Who Says That Girls Being Together is Unbelievable Will Completely Fall Within 100 Days." Who wants to say all that!? It's just as long in Japanese.

Yeah “Green Yuri” is a simple nickname for English speakers, easy to remember and you know what someone is talking about when they say it, so it gets the point across.

Also I don’t think nicknames are necessarily reductive, when they’re meant to be a casual and friendly way to address something with familiarity. Which I think is the case here.

Yeah we're in agreement. I'm not saying they're reductive; that was someone else. I'm saying the opposite. They're just normal and there's so many examples of series with harmless nicknames and shorthands.

It would be reductive if the only thing people say about it is "Look, its green! It's the Green Yuri!" as if it was the only reason the series is worth reading. Which, fair, in that situation it would feel bad to see the nickname.
Not that I've seen anything like that. Recommendations either go in detail about the story or characters, or just say "trust me, it's good", it's never just about greenness.

Oh yeah apologies, the second half of my comment was directed in regard to the broader conversation and the person that made the reductive comment. I didn’t mean for it to be directed at you, but I failed to make that clear think.

Smells like she's wrapping it up for finishing it at volume 4, with a few vignettes of their future life.

I don't think she wants to write about the musical career of Mitsuki.

there could always be a spin-off, but i honestly dont think so soon. She's been playing sround with new characters on her alt insta

Honestly I should reread this story. I'm betting I've missed a lot of things maybe even lost a chapter or two along the way, and it would be nice to take this sweet journey all over again. But 144 chapters and counting is daunting task, even at only 4 pages per chapter.

Is the key tattoo on Joe's left arm new for him too? It's in the same place as Mitsuki's key tattoo and she didn't have it before. I wonder if they met up at least once during the timeskip to have them done. I'd love an arc where MitsuAya go to the US to attend Joe and Kanna's wedding.

Translator note: Aya now calls Mitsuki with her first name instead of "Koga-san". And Mitsuki makes a show of calling her "Oosawa-san" when speaking with Joe, but then, at the end, calls her "Aya-san".

The fact Mitsuki still uses a polite "-san" speaks volumes about who's on top.

Probably reading too much into this, but is Kanna pregnant?? Mitsuki asking about Kanna's health is nothing special, but Joe saying "she's even working" implies that's she's in a state where it wouldn't be expected that she's working.

So... PREGNANT?? Or maybe dealing with a cold or something, but I like the pregnant theory lol
