Ok so lemme get this straight, they all went to a love hotel together, got buck naked and had a grand old time?

This whole scene feels very rushed, but at least Barong saved them (and is very beautifully drawn)

Is this the first time we've encountered an Otherside creature who just...wanted to have fun?

No blood, no nightmares, no fighting, no possession...just everybody having a gay old time with a random lion demon who loves music and dancing.

I'd wager that was less a joyful romp than an exorcisism. Sorawo used her drunken angst to summon up some kind of otherworld exorcist to deal with an otherworld issue.

Honestly that seems like a really damn good girls night out to me.

Are you even doing sleepovers right if you don't summon even one demon?

This is perhaps The Sorawo moment of all time. Her getting Migiwa and the doctor involved over what turned out to be a totally nonsensical scene that she could never share with anyone.

I do think compared to the light novel the emotionality of it got toned down a bit, I have a memory of more focus being put on Toriko’s disappointment when they’re bathing together that Sorawo is so out of it

I'm kinda getting sick of how Toriko is trying to force something that is only just developing and only focusing on her own feelings instead of seeing how Sorawo is suffering because of this behavior.
When you try to force something, it doesn't bend, it breaks.

Poor Sorawo, couldn't handle the awkwardness, lol. And even they skipped the part when Kozakura takes the TV control and asked if anyone wanted to see something in particular and then Toriko inquire saying "oh there it's porn too" (Sorawo almost spilled her beer for 83636283 time in the chapter)
Kozakura is like "duh, it's love hotel, wanna see that then?" "No thanks" and Sorawo was like "then why pointing that ouuuuut" in the end Kozakura asked Natsumi and she said to keep the Bali music and Sorawo is internally grateful for that.

Novel volume 8 spoilers:

The reason Toriko acts like that is because literally since the first moment they met, Sorawo's been shamelessly staring at her tits, which Toriko took as an invitation. One of the great uses of unreliable narration in fiction

I don't think it was her tits specifically? I was under the impression that she's just been staring in general, at Toriko's face as well, I can't find the specific moment this was brought up, though. I agree that it was great to get a confirmation of just how unreliable a narrator Sorawo can be. I find that one of the best things in this series is to try and read between the lines and notice what Sorawo tries to conceal or just doesn't even realize, about herself and others too. It's especially fun in the book, where she almost always tries to downplay her emotions, but getting to see expressions in the manga is also great.

It’s actually sort of a reverse exorcism? In the Barong dance the lion dancer represents the forces of good and Sorawo and the girls represent Rangda and her army of evil witches.

You are totally right though that this is a bit of a shift in how the entities appear, and it may have as much to do with our girls as it does with the entities themselves.

I had lost track of where I was in this manga and was meaning to start over for ages. I finally restarted it some days ago and caught up again just now.

The Pontianak and the Lion were two different entities. The former cursed Natsumi, the later was exorcist entity from Otherside summoned by half-drunken Sorao through room service call. Then Sorao conducted exorcism ritual with it to cleanse all of the five girls from Pontianak curse.

This doesn't really address whether or not the tale is Singaporean though?

Am I wrong for skimming/skipping the lore and reading the sorawo x toriko parts? It's like dude, I don't caaare about ninja cats or slaughter house cow freaks.

It's the kind of story where the spooks are more often than not a load-bearing structure for the yuri. The hot springs scene with Kozakura is even a note to the reader that the Otherside entities are hinting at something Sorawo's unconsciously looking away from. More often than not it's family trauma that scares her away from a conventional relationship with Toriko or some aspect of her relationship with Toriko that she's stressing over.

If you're skipping all that throughout the series, then I'd say you're "wrong" for that, yeah. That's what makes the series itself. You're free to do that though. Everyone can read how they wish.

I'm a Little nervous about Toriko not like being touched and avoiding crowded places. Something happened to her and I don't like the implications...
