Wait… wait a fucking minute. This first chapter feels really similar to the Japanese web drama Chaser Game W: Power Harassment Boss Is My Ex-Girlfriend. Well, maybe that makes sense since they share the same name. Let's goooo, it finally made it here! First of all, when I watched it in early 2024, there was no manga—but now, it finally has one!

Powahara. Ew. No thanks.

Megumiaki posted:

This manga is being adapted from the Japanese live-action GL drama of the same name, which those outside of Japan can watch on GagaOOLala! The platform also has a number of other great live-action GL shows (and LGBTQ+ shows in general) from all over the world, including Japan, Thailand, Korea, and more, making even a temporary subscription well worth it in my opinion. As far as Japanese ones go, I personally recommend the drama adaptation of Ayaka Is in Love with Hiroko, as well as a recent favorite of mine, Call Me By No Name (though this one is significantly darker in its subject matter).

Wait, there's a live action adaptation of one of Sal Jiang's works? I would not have called that.

Man this is making me want to watch the drama again. I miss Yuuka and Yurika's version of ItsuFuyu.

Highly recommend people to check out the drama! While not perfect, it's a lot of fun and it took over my life last year while it was airing.

Yeah I also remember it like that! With every new chapter released of the original material the fans of the GL series Chaser Game W were wondering if Fuyu and Itsuki will be introduced. I am not up to date if they will ever appear, but with this new manga here we already won!

Please go watch the drama series, it's worth it although the story telling is a bit clunky. I bet you will adore both main characters, so pls give Fuyu a chance, you will be surprised ;)

i think this is backward? the drama was adapted from this manga, it just hasn't been translated before. anyway, i liked the show well enough, will keep an eye on this.

No, this manga is new. The drama was technically a spinoff of sorts based on a manga, but it wasn't this one. The original manga, just called Chaser Game (this one is supposed to be called Chaser Game W; it'll be fixed when our uploader is available to fix it), had a completely different story and cast of characters, and wasn't yuri. The Chaser Game W drama kept the game development studio setting of Chaser Game, but the plot and everything else were original, created specifically for the drama. Now, this manga is being adapted from that.

A video game company in which artists have a single monitor? Poor employees.

Cool, a good excuse for me to practice Japanese listening skills while indulging in yuri!

As soon as she mentioned a collaboration between the countries I knew where this story was going, can't wait to read more of it.

Yup yup, this really feels like I'm watching a drama, just in manga form. :D
I remember this scene from the first episode of the drama.

Setting her up for gap moe? Or was her innocent soul ground to dust by the cold heel of corporate life?

The whole game development part is too unrealistic, this ain't it. Suspension of disbelief can only go so far.

I'll kinda assume this is meant to be "ice queen" who is secretly doing nice things (like giving a pregnant woman effectively paid time off, sorta?), but it just comes across ... badly.

You're right. I somehow missed this obvious (in hindsight) interpretation for her actions.
Makes more sense than her transforming into a witch in the few years since the MC last saw her.

Reading this made me go watch the drama and…honestly for every question/doubt people have now, just watch the drama. 16 episodes, two seasons, and I got through it faster than I expected to. I’m not sure how many chapters this manga expects to have considering the pacing hasnt even gotten halfway through episode one yet but…the drama was really good. It airing on TV Tokyo was also a super pleasant surprise, very high quality and the actresses can act well so this couple doesn’t feel awkward (once you get through the first two episodes/maybe 12 chapters? I’m guessing here?) and dope progressive messaging at the end of season 2. All in all I’m looking forward to reading this interpretation of the characters.
