Side note, this is reminding me of another manga where an older lady was recalling her life lived as a lesbian who had never come out & had continued living within heteronormativity. I think the story was kind of told through her granddaughter's interactions with her. Does anyone remember what I'm thinking of?

Interesting!
I must have missed this one..
Anyone recalled ? Please share the title of the manga if you remember it, thank you!

I know what they're talking about but can't remember the name. If I remember before someone posts it, I'll share.

I think they're probably talking about this, but I don't remember the story all that well, so I might be wrong.

That's what I was thinking of. Thanks. I'd actually forgotten about my response.

A new chapter of my favorite current manga, my day is made: -D You can totally see why Hanayo is getting so fascinated with all the new things she gets to discover, even if it's something so simple as the fun in doing ''nothing'' . Life is a lot more fun when you realize that as long as you're enjoying yourself, no time is really wasted, even in the truly mundane.

Yoshiko calling Hanayo "sugar" is so good, I love it. Thanks for the update!

I wonder if Yoshiko has been putting a different flower from Hanamonogatari in that vase every day just in case Hanayo comes by

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the drawing of that hand on the cover? The blur, the window in the makeup case, the reflection seen through that window . . .

This is a lovely work. Endearing to see people who have worked a lifetime getting to explore again.

I am so happy we get old neighbors treated as kind to each other and not judging. Women just being friends with other women.

Her husband really was such an ass.

Nothing pisses me off more than men peddling that "women akshually hate and backstab each other" bullshit. The majority of people that have gotten on my nerves in life are men. Other women have been much more pleasant to be around and supportive, relatively speaking.

Literally just a stupid narrative to try to drive a wedge between women to make them more isolated and vulnerable to men. The husband should have died sooner when all he's done is put Hana down in her life.

What a great illustration of societal sexism passed down from one generation to the next, in just a few quick pages. It feels like this mangaka really gets it on a genuine level and it's a pretty rare thing IMO. Thank god for her granddaughter, there's some hope yet in this world. You go granny, take all the dang classes you want !

I was thinking the exact same thing. The idea of the "dismissive laugh" is such an elegant way of describing a lot of complex issues.

WELL SAID!

I liked this chapter far more than it deserves (I think), if only for how the professor was shown to be human (not some know-it-all prick) and the son-in-law managed to put his foot in his mouth all the way to the knee with his wife. I'm glad this story is taking so long to be translated so I don't binge it in one sitting and can digest it in small doses the way it feels like it should be read.

It's such a great way of explaining it! And the son's casual dismissal of his mom's abilities is heartbreaking

I've had Sakurada for only one chapter, but if anything happened to him, I will kill everyone in this room and then myself.

Yes! It's so nice to see a mangaka who gets it! Sexism is a really big problem in our world because it's so present in our daily lives that becomes imperceptive. And in the moment you get aware of it, world becomes another kind of hell, a hell which you understand but can't do nothing about it alone.

I like how we meet a genuinely good guy and then only pages later her son is being a dumbass in the same chapter. Truly the duality of man.

Actually the man is her son, not son-in-law, which makes his reactions even more frustrating... like come on man, it's your ma you're talking about

Like father like son. We've seen hints of the dad's influence on the rest of the family, at least the men in the family, in disrespecting and disregarding Hanayo. Glad that guy's dead lol.
