I think this was the biggest salty wall of text I've seen so far on these forums lmao

I’m sorry, but that was the cheesiest, most obvious romantic set up that Yuzu pushing Minami away, thinking they’ll never be tighter romantically, is sooooo frustrating. You don’t lean in to kiss your friend on the lips, ever— and Minami was clearly aiming for her lips— unless you like them in a romantic way.

... I will say, I don't understand why people have this concept of someone not deserving to be in a relationship just because they didn't follow the correct song and dance in order to reach it :P

Because Yuzu PUSHED Minami away when she was trying to kiss her. That’s blatant rejection. It’s not that Yuzu isn’t following the right steps— she’s actively pushing herself away from Minami, actively trying to remain friends, and actively against the idea of them dating. Yuzu 100% isn’t ready for a relationship.

There is absolutely zero indication that Minami gives a shit about Kamiya romantically, there is plenty of evidence she still feels that way about Yuzu.

In the same way Minami hasn’t shown romantic interest in Kamiya, you could also say that Yuzu hasn’t shown any evidence of wanting to be in a relationship with Minami. She’d rather be friends to the point she refuses to accept the possibility of Minami liking her back.

If Yuzu is proactively shutting down the idea of them getting together in a situation where she literally had to do NOTHING in order for Minami’s intentions to be made clear, I don’t see how Minami saying “I love you romantically, please be my girlfriend” is going to be taken at face value.

Unless the confession chapter is basically Minami asserting that her feelings are in fact, romantic in nature until Yuzu understands that—
which, in Minami’s POV, Yuzu’s constant avoiding reality could easily be taken as indirect rejection; Yuzu wanting to remain friends and trying to casually turn Minami down to give her the opportunity to run away or backtrack (which is literally what is happening)
—I don’t see how they’ll get together. Yuzu is just too stubborn.

Or you could have wait. It's not like the team is inactive or slow.

And I never said that they were.

Idk what’s wrong with wanting to check, maybe spoiling it isn’t cool (I’ve seen other comments spoiling the next chapters before) but I’d rather have clearer expectations, get my grievances over with as soon as possible, so I’m not upset when all the worse tropes in existence are used.

Like, I know I’m more invested than I should be, I know I care more than I should. If I get it out now, I won’t have a lot to say later.

I get that but people don't generally like spoilers posted in that way, although as you said it's not consistent. If you want to get out your thoughts as they come, you could post your comment as a word document or a note on your phone and copy/paste it here once the translation for that chapter shows up. That way you get your thoughts in order, clear your head and have less disgruntled comments coming your way.

That’s smart. I’ll do that for the final chapter.

If they were eating it up I don't think it would have been axed after chapter 28. Granted a lot of authors get much less than that to work with, but it doesn't feel like that was the length this series was supposed to be.

Now that the heat has died down I just want to say Hinori and Tsubasa jumping straight towards Minami to hold her because they thought Minami was going to give up everything is pretty sweet. And Hinori's angry kabedon in her attemp to persuade Minami lmao

Y'know, after sitting on this a bit, I realize that this might be kind of controversial (don't out people, don't spill the tea, don't speak other people's truths without their permission) but at this point, given all that she actually knows about both of them, SURELY this is one rare circumstance in which Kamiya is justified in grabing Yuzu's stupid face and telling her "SHE LIKES YOU ROMANTICALLY, YOU DUMMY, SHE EXPLICITLY TOLD ME HERSELF WHEN SHE TURNED DOWN MY CONFESSION GO MARRY HER ALREADY." I said before I think that might have happened, but I've been debating internally whether or not doing such a thing is ethical, and I think I've landed on "Just tell her, there's no other way to break the shell."

I think the issue is, Yuzu herself is so deep down that hole of denial, hearing that her feelings are returned from anyone else other than Minami herself will just cause her to dig herself deeper into that hole— like, she just flat out wouldn’t believe them, pull a “she just thinks we’re best friends, and that’s all we’ll ever be”

I also think that Yuzu isn’t mentally prepared for a relationship yet, but that’s prolly just me thinking that

I used to be excited about this kind of manga, but I've grown to learn the pattern of these manga.

For the first few chapters of this manga, I read page by page. But at around the 6-10th chapter, I started skipping it, cuz I realized the pattern where by it's another one of those manga that would have little to no actual progress, where they gonna hype you over the SAME thing again and again, then flop it in the beginning of next chapter.

Ocasionally I would come back, and flip though a few pages to see if there's any progress. But it seems like at chapter 27, it's still not that much different from the first few chapters, it's still the same old formula but with more side characters.

They’re going to get together next chapter and I will feel nothing except relief that it’s finally over

On the other hand, the author has the opportunity to do something atrocious, so who knows

Finally ffs. Although it does feel like the series got axed. I really liked this story, but the sudden pace change from ch 25 to ch 27 is jarring. The story progressed at a snail's pace until the end and in 1 chapter and zoo visit, Minami decided to finally speak her truth? Just feels out of the blue for her character. However, I still really liked this story and the cuteness between them. I liked thinking it was one-sided for awhile only to find out Yuzu feels that way too. I realized I was a lesbian in middle school and watched many of my friends, including myself, shy away from their feelings because of internalized homophobia, being closeted, or fearing what our friends might think if they found out. We played things very cautiously as sometimes it did ruin friendships - that fear was real and scary. I really hope it works out for them!

Well the obvious problem with this is, how is that any different from that ski trip, she was already determined to do the same thing :P I think that's the biggest problem with the whole manga in a nutshell, it's kinda repetitive and really likes to spin in circles doing more or less the same thing, like some kind of cartoon where villain always loses at the end of the episode and in the next one barely anything changed. I enjoyed a lot of it regardless but it could have been way better.

you fuck, why isn't it "I love your pretty face, your petite body, your small-animal demeanor, your kindness, your cutesy and your unreliable sides." but like "I have someone I'm in love with" YOU COWARD ARGHHHHHHH. FUCKING GET MARRIED ALREADY IT'S NO LONGER FUNNY ARGHHHHHH

it's kind of the problems of romcoms. You have a natural point of conclusion and after a point it gets like this where you're just repeating yourself, that's why so many have just chosen to focus on other characters for the second half lately. It's just writing yourself into a corner

Ngl im kinda salty that after all the nonsense, after effectively already confessing and getting rejected like 2 chapters prior, its once again minami that has to confess. Like this manga is really gonna end with Yuzu not having taken the initiative even once.

Isn't this series called "How Do I Get Together With My Childhood Friend?", so i hope that the ending doesn't going against that premise...

Yeah this is kinda why I lost interest and started skimming ~15 chapters ago. The problem with this kind of love story is that the only issue they had was their inability to communicate their feelings, so the minute they get together it's happily ever after. All of the side characters had their arcs wrapped up ages ago and didn't have anything to do in the story besides play wingmen. The author put all of their eggs in this one basket, but there's only so many times and so many ways you can have someone interrupt a confession or misunderstand something before it gets ridiculous and the audience runs out of patience. It really felt to me like the author accidentally wrote themselves in a corner because they didn't think far enough ahead, or were afraid adding in other elements would compromise the fluffy, light-hearted vibe it was going for.

Finally!

I'm not even cheering for them anymore (Yuzu is useless and Kamiya making Minami look her way would've been more interesting), I just want this misery to end.
