People always get mad at new characters because they assume they know exactly what will happen.
Despite the fact that they're rarely correct about what will happen, I find it crazy that people in general are so opposed to plot happening.

That shock was possibly a bit of an overreaction to Ruriko buying the book so they could read it at the same time...

Actually no. I think it's more of "Oh she went out of her way to buy something I like, (so she can enjoy it too)." Like she doesn't seem to get that Riko (yep can't spell so I shortened it anyway) she doesn't get that Riko likes her but noticed the effort or gesture as sweet. I mean for example when you and someone like your siblings play the same video games it's fun to talk about the game. It's another way to bond. And going out of her way to buy it on the way home is just sweet, and Kurumi is developing feelings so it's extra sweet.

I really want to know if there's a reason for Ruriko's rather intense reaction, and I also hope this didn't shut Kurumi down too hard. Though I do expect all this to be resolved for the better in a couple of chapters, I am a tiny bit anxious.
