That is how I read it too, was that Mom was thinking who could it be. Mom then realized who the one person her daughter found special and immediately went to rooting on her daughter and her best friend.

There was a small translation mistake -- on page 5, where it says "She might have those kinds of feelings" it should say "It might seem weird"/"She might think it's weird"/etc.

Truly. To be fair on Tsukushi, this whole thing was initiated by how freaked out she was bout being rejected in her dream. It might feel like reality is slowly inching towards the imagery of that dream but our girl is committing to the confession at least.
