whenever i see manga tackle drugs as a topic i always laugh at how grossly inaccurate all of it is. it reads like the elementary school psas of ALL DRUGS ARE THE SAME AND ALL DRUGS WILL KILL YOU!!!! it's downright comical. i find it genuinely frustrating how these authors don't even seem to research these things before writing about them. mind you, i'm not advocating for mdma or coke, those things can fuck you up big time. but just having it be vague "drugs" that make you want to kill yourself is ridiculous, especially because you'll neeeever see these mangaka represent alcoholism as something equally as severe. sorry for the rant, i'm tired and annoyed.

This was one of the dumbest things I have ever read.
If it was meant to be an anti-drug PSA it failed because all it did was make me laugh, the author clearly knows so little about drugs that they have to be as vague as possible while pushing the idea that taking them even a little sends you into a hell spiral lmao.

That was depressing. Kinda wish I didn't read it when I'm emotionally compromised, but yeah.

Also, like, I get the frustration regarding not well-researched drug use, but it's pretty clear that Tsukushi was using drugs to cope with the troubles in her life - she's emotionally delicate and she's just not doing too hot in general. The drugs didn't make her suicidal or emotionally distressed (that came from outside factors), it just loosened her and Adachi's inhibitions to the point Adachi fucked up. The specifics of what drugs were used isn't the point, it's the circumstances in which it is used and what it does to a relationship.

The last bit was gratuitous and kinda unnecessary, though. Like. What was the point? Was it just tragedy for tragedy's sake?

if your gonna make a story about why drugs are bad at least tell us what they are so its understandable why things happen in correlation too the drugs like whaykind where they

I think the story was more about two weak-willed girls who dragged each other into a bad situation.
I do feel glad I'm not feeling offended that drugs weren't realistically depicted, thus presenting them in a bad light. How dare they.

Lily is sure drugs will be very glad you all defended her good name when she reads these comments, instead of focusing on things like themes or the relationship between the leads~

The author made up a drug, that's why it's not presented as an specific drug and what those specific drugs do, their made-up drug does seem to present a pattern, they are sort of euphoria, disinhibition, brain fog or memory gaps, high libido, dependency (which actually presents how it can work at different levels depending the individual) followed by a low or depressive episode which can worsen an already existing depressive state. That's what the author decided to do and I think it can happen in a made-up scenario where they don't want to use a real drug and since the theme is crime, they went with a kind of drug that could led to a level of euphoria and disinhibition that ended on Sakura not realizing she was actually killing her Tsukushi while under the influence. I think it was good on what it was trying to do for a themed one-shot without being extremely serious on the DRUGS side of things, they wanted to present what it DID to the characters in a relationship.

This is some serious "war on drugs" propaganda bullshit. I don't even use psychoactive substances, and this offended me.

Why are you all surprised? In Japan smoking weed is treated like a worse crime than being in the yakuza, lol.

for those saying to focus on the themes, the themes weren't even tackled very well either. the author did not show how things could escalate to the point of codependency and resentment, of how the circumstances in the miserable one's life led to her changing drastically. it did not show the human part, which is the gradual descent into a happy relationship becoming toxic. it just slapped you in the face with making things as dramatic and miserable as possible. it was a nothingburger of sadslop.

wow people really hate this one LOL

I didn't think it was that bad. The narrator doesn't know what the drugs are, or why her girlfriend is deteriorating so fast, so the readers don't either. Heck, she didn't even mention her girlfriend's cutting scars. Not a very observant woman.
I was more impressed by how fast it escalated and had the main character murdering her girlfriend. Author was willing to go way darker than I thought they would, based on the art style, and maybe my logic-brain was turned off, but the trainwreck was believable for me while I was reading and riding along.

I loved it! especially the connection between sex and drugs, we need more yuri with crazy sex due to drugs, more high women fucking!

I don’t know why everyone is taking it as a PSA, the drug made them to not be in their right mind, she is no serial killer, obviously she was going to get caught. Either way artificial drugs are “bad” compared to natural ones (weed, opio, etc), I think the ones in this one-shot are artificial ones, they are more hard, that is why she descends so fast I think, she was also depressed from the start.
Other than that, drugs are bad because they are produced in the south globe so that the western world can get high, impoverishing and destroying our countries. It's not that I'm interested in discussing this issue, I'm not going to blame individuals for this either, but I don't understand the need to defend (real) drugs because a fictional story is a little edgy about it. It’s a fictional story, if it painted drugs in a positive light I wouldn’t think it was excusing them either.
Also like, with drugs you will have stories that paint it like the Devil and other that will paint it as something Awesome, it’s that type of topic

Japan problem with drugs vs alcohol it’s another topic lol

Edit: I liked it, I differ with other opinions, I don’t think you need to explain how they went from happy to toxic or every emotion, that type of “didactic” approach on stories is not my favorite, the one-shot is not trying to explain why the girl used drugs, it just happened, just like real life plus many addicts start with their partners just like the protagonist. It is a story of frenzy and euphoria, with the protagonist documenting how things escalated.

In addition to Japan's super tough narcotics laws, the average Japanese person just doesn't have much personal exposure to drugs outside of alcohol and tobacco.

That's why they always invent some kind of bullshit convenient drug for a story, because all they have to go on is the PSAs they're shown and whatever they pick up from Western movies and media. Imagine a virgin who's never so much as felt a boob trying to write a sex scene with only a couple of porn movies from the 70s and a handful of printed out Wikipedia articles for reference. That's what they're up against.

Tl;dr, relax. It's awkward because it really isn't present in their culture.

(Lord only knows how Chain-smoking Cat is going to handle it. Then again, anything that reaches deep enough to reference movies like Kids and other dark shit has definitely done some kind of research.)

Lily is sure drugs will be very glad you all defended her good name when she reads these comments, instead of focusing on things like themes or the relationship between the leads~

... Leaving aside how that reads like you're speaking in third-person, what do you expect? This is the Dynasty forums. If people aren't finding ways to take personal offense to things or hourly debating imaginary themes and messages somewhere on this site, then the world has ended and we're all dead.

If two lesbians had sex and drugs and one of them strangled the other one, wouldn't that be fucked up or what?

I liked it, sure, it might be fear-inspiring for people not to use drugs...but ,drugs aren't really some sort of game. Also I liked the fact that it was angsty and sad. Cos real life is like that!! Sometimes, and the relationship had some major issues, drugs aside. A proper ending, if she was eating those leaves to die as well.

Thought they decided to quit drugs together only to find out that one of them accidentally killed the other...

Though I wonder, what does PSA mean?
