Why did we have to go the serious hypnosis route and not the funny route?

Horror?

So instead of anything overly complicated or completely intentional, it's just Nagi ending up with Airi in a trance in front of her and, honestly, fumbling the heck out of it.

"Okay, so you're me now. Wait, why would I do that? I'm not into me, I'm into her."

"So the you that is me will die and turn back into Airi. Uhh, shit, she's freaking out."

"Fear is good, actually, it's basically love, and feels great! Please calm down..."

It's ambiguous whether she's fucking up in real time or has some really obscure kinks, but I like both interpretations

I am also curious, where did the induction script for these chapters come from? were they translated or were they taken from somewhere external?

My guess is they, the two of them, tried out a hypnosis kit Fumi brought; and having been watching horror stuff, they decided to do something in that direction. Airi went under, and Nagi put in a couple of triggers. Maybe something like 'when I offer to hold your hand, you will see me as a monster' or 'when you go home, you'll go to my place instead'.

But one little detail is catching my attention: the panel where it is stated 'I'm Takane Nagi and you're Arimoto Airi.' That sounds like a reaffirmation of some induced identity shenanigans. Like maybe the Airi we see is actually Nagi made to think she's Airi, and that's why when she tries to run home she runs to Nagi's home.

In any case, I look forward to seeing the curtain drawn back on this relatively benign mindscrew.

so, you weren't actually that far off with what mostly happened. Nagi was reaffirming the identities, but mostly to double check "hey, you know you're Airi, right?" which is what I expected in that from what little i've seen in that particular category, double identity swap at the same time is a bit out there. but like pretty good deduction based on what we were given!

it's also interesting that Airi seemingly might have gotten wires crossed in that rather than merely feeling good off of feeling fear, she might also feel fear she otherwise would not have if she was already otherwise "feeling good" or of love, perhaps. which is ESPECIALLY interesting in what parts she otherwise feels fear she wouldn't before.

Wow. what a way to explain the horror movie going on in the latter part of the A-side. what Airi was normally was feeling for Nagi felt even stranger than usual because she was also having a fear response? .... Nice one? I think? Also, I'm not sure if I got it right, but is the hypnosis over with Airi waking up at the end of c.34?

Any trance or suggestibility should revert to baseline after the cognitive reset that is normal sleep. But there could still be aftereffects, impulses, or triggers that linger. I wouldn't be surprised if the enmeshed fear-love response pops up, even if just as an echo the first time she sees Nagi.I doubt the latter was particularly proficient about fixing things, if that was even her main focus.

I must have missed something, because the ending felt creepy to me, rather than funny.

There's a strong argument to be made that this is sexual assault on some level. Anyway, I'm dropping this like it's radioactive, because it is.

Wait, I just realized that this chapter outright STATES that she groped the other girl while she was sleeping, and that is literal sexual assault.

I was split between 'just hypnosis' and 'some level of bodyswapping involved' since 34 and 34.5 made it clear that the Airi we saw during the chapter was always the Airi we're familiar with. Given that Airi is a certified sleepy girl and 34 already kind of indicated she was super reactive to hypnosis I'm a little annoyed at myself for not figuring out the solution earlier.

Nagi never actually breaks the hypnosis, despite the numerous warnings in both chapters? She tries to fix it by going along with what Airi thinks, which in practice takes the form of leading her through the scenario and adding more and more suggestions until Airi's mind turns into slush. That's pretty amazing for us (page 84 was beautiful...), but it's terrible for Airi.

But that's how Nagi does things, right? She accepts whatever Airi thinks because when put in a corner (see chapter 16) she wants to be accepted completely, including her codependency and toxicity, and really doesn't want to be denied at all. Nagi can't quite admit to her role in starting Airi's spiral by ending it as she begun it; maybe that parallels how she also can't quite admit to her role in making Airi the brilliant outgoing person she loves today? Might be reaching, though

This is honestly the only interpretation that really preserves any level of integrity Nagi has.

Nagi doesn't tend to have the best impulse control, and I don't get the impression she planned any of that, so she just did the first thing that popped into her head and realized the fantasy was better than the reality.
