I like the author. But this story (which is already finished with 1 volume) I didn't like it much, to be honest. I look forward to her next project.

Hmm this kinda seems like a story of obsession and idolization, I don't think this will go well

I feel like it could even be on both ends.

eg. (wild speculation) Senpai is in an emotionally abusive relationship because she has feelings for the guy who is manipulating her. MC "rescues" Senpai to "bring back" her ever reliable Senpai but in the process is also putting her own ideal of what Senpai is supposed to be like on her.

Mao is a giant sleezy walking redflag please get over her and away from her asap. Though you're not going to and I'm honestly not gonna feel bad for her heartbreak later.

Mao asking if Nina missed her feels kinda like a flag, I wonder if the actual reason the other guy had a weird reaction to Nina mentioning Mao in chapter 1 isn't because of the guy shes with now, but because she's actually been sleeping around a lot because she's really lonely and starved for affection, but doesn't stick with anyone long term

how is mao a red flag for....being in a toxic, but not too unusual by college standards relationship and...smoking? what? the protag is the real red flag, putting mao on a pedestal and basically stalking her. i can suspend my disbelief though and understand that since this is manga the protag's behavior is exaggerated and will read as somewhat bizarre. i don't really understand what everyone is on about.

We have no idea if her relationship is toxic or unusual she kept if vague and explained nothing I'm not saying she's in a good one either but we have zero actual proof the relationship she's in now is toxic the guy has been in a few pages and hasn't shown to be toxic yet.

Mao asking if Nina missed her etc kinda also proves she knows about Nina's feelings imo.

I'm not saying Nina is any better but let's be real if the person you've been crushing on for years flat out lies to you and doesn't even realize she lied to you, would you not be curious about why she lied like that? This isn't the first manga where a character follows another to the same school to try and reconnect so I hardly count that part as stalking. And again the following her from the train is mild curiosity with slight stalking tendencies following her like that.

following up on the Mao red flag discourse:
it's the work stuff. she said she didn't work today, but when questioned why she was getting off at a different station, she used work as an excuse, flagging it as clearly her keeping things from Nina
this new context also retroactively shifts what was said in the previous chapter about if they were dating. it could be that Mao requested that them dating be kept secret from Nina, and anyone who reaches that interpretation is gonna see the red flag even more, since now it feels like she may be leading Nina on

unrelated to all this, I agree that guy strikes me as "Mr. Nice Guy" material because damn does his face make my skin crawl. I know I'm biased as a misandrist transbian, but fluffy black hair guy at least looks decent and doesn't set me off. shame he's gonna be all heartbroken, tho the sad puppyboy look will def suit him~

If they had a real relationship he wouldn't need to "accidentally" leave things at her apartment. My read on this is Mao wants to date him, and he's just using her while keeping his options open. She must be fully aware of this, given how she's swinging back and forth on going over to his place. She just can't help herself.

And hey, you know what a person in that situation really needs? A trusted friend she can talk it out with! Will there actually be a healthy resolution? It's a story, flip a coin!
