For all we know, Tsugumi's house burning down is just an accident that has nothing to do with Kanae's "curse". Somehow Tsugumi picks up on Kanae's self-guilt and takes advantage of her, despite knowing that Kanae is suffering inside. But what does "I stay alive by drinking her spit" mean? And what is the significance of their bird dying?

Lesson learned. Don't imprison animals.

huh, okay. I feel like there's just layers upon layers of metaphor and symbolism going on here.

But I'm not really getting it lmao.

To a certain extent I can see the parallels with Aoi Tsugumi being named after a bird and getting one to keep as she herself gets kept by Kanae. But then, the bird dying, and that Kanae feels like she's at fault for the fire due to a childish curse, and how Aoi has at the very least intuited kanae feels like she's to blame.

In many ways this feels like a part one to a two part story. Liked it though. Hope things go well for them XD.

actually edit I guess, the title is also interesting, because I would argue Kanae really is the one carrying the burden of a burned face here. Right, like obvious not to downplay Aoi's situation but she seems to have at this point in time, gotten over it. She's got kind of a devil may care attitude which like, fair enough. But Kanae really does carry the burden of what she feels like is her doing.

So it’s kinda toxic and co dependent but…not really? Each kinda feels guilt for taking advantage of the other but they otherwise have a normal relationship. No idea why the bird died or what it’s supposed to symbolize, any guesses?

Is this a 2 parter? That line about spit and the sudden death of the bird seem like there is a bit more to tell of this story.

Okay so girl A blamed herself for girl B's situation, and girl B figured this out. I think the spit line is just about how guilt causes A to support B and the bird dying is the cycle repeating itself, because A will blame herself for this. (The curse again)

EDIT: Okay it could also just be meaninglessly creepy given that's the theme of the anthology.

I thought I got it until the ending happened and then I didn't get it again.

And what is the significance of their bird dying?

Another proof of the curse? Whether or not there really IS a curse, black haired girl will feel guilty and blame herself whenever something bad happens. Like another comment said, the cycle of feeling guilty and trying to make up for it repeats.

The line about the spit could just be that the only way she feels like she could make up for her “cursing” the blondie is by being her lover and being intimate with her.

Blondie seems to know about the guilt MC feels but not about the curse, nor does the blondie hold any malice towards MC either— I’m thinking blondie had feelings for or wanted to be close to the black haired chick since they were kids— since she basically idolizes her; their dynamic is toxic AF— tho it’s just a theory

Both of these chapters read as if they’re gonna be longer. Like, it’s not written as a oneshot at all

I liked it. I think it's rare to see burn victims in manga

I like how people's reaction to this is almost the inverse of A Case of Dumping a Suicide Note on Someone by Text being mislabeled as Chapter 1.

The spit thing is a metaphor I think, it doesn't make too much sense otherwise.

But also lol, it's funny how neither of them realize the truth about the other. She doesn't know she was cursed, and she doesn't realize her guilt is being leveraged.

my guesses: she simply means she stays alive by kissing her - i.e. their relationship is all that is keeping her alive

we see a flurry of feathers on the page before, so i think the implication is that tsugumi killed it, presumably to try to make kanae feel more guilty (the "curse") and bind them closer together

The dying bird is simply a metaphor, a foreshadowing that their messed-up relationship WILL die

Mineshiro Kanae and "Mii-chan" the bird, share the same destiny. Both are being kept on a cage by Tsugumi, and if they don't get out of here they will die in that cage. The curse may or may not be real, but the guilt that keeps Kanae here is real, the one that keeps her alive by "drinking spit", by hating herself for "what she did". Tsugumi knows, but she ignores it as long as it keeps Kanae next to her, she thinks there would be no other way they would be together. The same way she keeps a bird in a cage, becouse she is scared Mii-chan would fly away. Once you noticed "Mii-chan" can also be a nickname for "Mineshiro" that last page feels so scary. Showing both Mii-chans side by side with a black background. Black that leeks from the cage...

i may be misunderstanding the story, but could the bird dying be a good thing? the birds name is the name of the curse so it dying shows the curse is also dead. showing there not connected by a curse but through love?

i get the feeling the "drinking spit" line is also about kanae putting herself "below" tsugumi in worth. it's not intimacy so much as giving up her pride and human worth to do an act of service for tsugumi. i like the take in here that tsugumi killed the bird on purpose, it feels in-line with their whole dynamic here. kanae is trapped and suffocated by her guilt, and tsugumi monopolizes and takes advantage of that. this whole anthology is a hell of a read tbh
