Introspection isn't pointless.

I never understood what the point of having a side character develop feelings for the main character for it to go nowhere because the main couples will end up together.

I mean, characters usually aren't aware they're in a story with an obvious endgame pairing. The former idol at least seems fine with the fact her crush hates her guts.
