Pacing is fine, the chapters are too short. Not criticizing anyone, but I long for more content.

A quarter of a chapter would be one or two pages in this case, which isn't enough time to develop much.

This mom relationship is low key one of my favorite parts of the story I want them to become besties

When she was a child, she was a model student. She was forced to completely abandon her education to support her family. To such a degree that when she picked it up should be alive she couldn't even understand schoolwork for a CHILD.

She has done everything she give her daughter the future she was denied. And she feels betrayed by her.

Is she bigoted? I don't think so. She's just ignorant. She needs time and compassion. She needs to know her child does appreciate and love her. That her daughter being gay and loving same woman doesn't mean she doesn't love or appreciate her mother and everything she's done for her daughter.

Her child also needs compassion, love, and understanding. Currently her daughter feels rejected by the mother, and the mother's very clear disapproval of same sex relationships. Even treating her daughter's homosexuality like a disease. I think the mother first needs to love her child in order for that love to be returned, not the other way around. Especially as a parent's happiness is not the responsibility of their children.

Damn, Mom's being written too believably as a depressed Asian mother...I dunno what the author's intentions are but I actually don't want the moms to hook up? I really feel like sometimes there really is a time and place for everything and them pairing up would really be a bit too convenient and almost take away from the snippets of realism with Luxi's upbringing to have both daughters and mothers pair up. Though an arc where Tong Tong's mom plays wingwoman for Luxi's mom's post-divorce romantic adventures would be welcome.

I agree. I want them to be friends not girlfriends. I believe they'd both benefit more from being friends and it would be more realistic than them dating. Tongtong's mom is just too straight. Friendships are just as important as romantic relationships. Besides, I don't recall any of the mothers written as having any other friends.

Calling someone and old fart while trying to save their life is sonething else.

"I can't let her be gay because people will be homophobic to her, and that would cause her suffering", is some logic that loops right back around to being homophobic and causes her daughter suffering by not accepting her. She should be someone that is supportive and there for her daughter no matter what, even if people are assholes to her daughter at least she'd be an important pillar of support...
