Not sure how much of the husband's story I can believe here. He might be as delusional as Ai is when it comes to his wife. That's assuming he's not abusive and manipulative.

That's the part that makes me question her motives the most. If she's genuinely trying to get away from an unhappy/bad/dangerous marriage, then why would she symbolically put her husband and lover on the same level by sending them both the photo? Has she sent him all the same photos as she sent Ai? Is she playing a game to see how they both react, or is this a cry for help that even she doesn't understand?

We're getting tiny glimpses through the keyhole, and everyone involved has only one small part of the story. Ai sees it one way, the husband sees it another, and Kon is just on the outside trying to deal with her feelings.

I am so confused by the story… But then, I'm always confused in life.

It's interesting to have an MC who isn't cunning/street smart (at least she, her mom, and several other characters see her like that) be the one the husband explains himself to. Is her read on him correct? Is her read on any of them correct? All of these supposedly smarter people who seem to be acting completely irrationally being judged by this MC.

honestly, her flavour of "not normal" is extremely relatable.

(I too had parents who for most of my life urged me to be normal, and I very quite succeeded…)

This is quickly becoming another favorite. This and Octave--they showcase a lot of skill. I can't wait for the next chapters.

Really need to get Kaede's perspective because she just seems worse and worse every chapter.

Did she forget about the conversation she had with Ai about a potential double suicide? The hell is she thinking by ghosting Ai and then sending her a picture of a bridge after having had a conversation like that?

well, Kaede is a writer, so whatever Ai does while chasing her could make for compelling material.

And given Ai's background, it would make for very different material than her husband's journey.

anyway, this doesn't mean that Kaede isn't a terrible person. Just, trying to analyse her motives with very little to go on

I interpret it as 'playing a game to see how they both react.'
Simply means, she probably wants to know, who out of the two are the one who cares about her existence.
But I wouldn't see it as 'playing'.
I would see it as a cry for help, probably, to choose who she'll be with out of the two for her next future to begin with.
But along the way towards her journey,she may also have met a fated person who happens to made her heart flutter.
She may also not.
As the latest chapter implied that she has thoughts of suicide.
But it could also be that, she was playing words out of romance.
Like a poet, to flirt the potential romantic partner.

The way her husband responds may suggest that he's boring on the inside and unable to communicate as he seems to have thought of wife's tantrum as a pattern to seek his attention, or that simply she may not find him interesting to live with.

Kaede san may have pursued Ai san out of her frustration towards her marriage with her husband as she may not able to communicate well, or after having fights with her husband, as suggested that she's the dominant of the relationship, and that she'll only phone her out of whim to go out (like an on and off thing) rather than a continued affair.

And Akiyama sensei's writing is beautiful.
So does the translated.

I just think Kaede is depressive and is running away from it.

Her affair with Ai was just a way for her to check if "love" alleviated her desire to end it all, but obviously it failed so Kaede resumed her journey in search of more and more intense sensations, something that might keep her interested in living.

"What kind of darkness were you gazing into" says it all.

Maybe at the end of her journey, having failed to find something worth living for, she'll actually kill herself.
