fckin' hell that ending

I don't dislike love-triangle but I really hate it here. Thank god this is only a one-shot.

At first I was going question the claim that archery is uncultured. Then the last page came along...

No kidding. I’ve always thought of archery in manga as being associated with traditional Japanese culture, much more than modern ball sports, etc. So that insult seemed pretty weird.

Would kendo maybe be considered more cultured?

I’m guessing Mao was just looking for another way to insult Arashi. Either that, or maybe it’s just not considered a “girl’s” sport.

Actually, in the original Japanese, Arashi says she belonged to the Kendo club.

And Mao says :
いかにも野蛮ね
不潔そうだし乱暴だわ

How barbaric.
It sounds dirty and violent.

Which is a more understandable quip.

But how it was adapted is JQ's choice, so I TS'd as is.

Ah, yeah. That does make more sense.
(But I understand that the process is the process.)

Unpopular opinion: I actually WANT to see a continuation. I want drama, the premise is well-written and it could surprise us… There is potential in this one.

i selfishly second this

Now we just need Arashi to have a crush on Mao and the triangle will be complete! (This would actually be my preferred pairing since I adore this type of dynamic)

I wouldn't mind a continuation off of this. The characters seem fun and likable

I never understand why so many people want poly relationships I don't like those or harems or anything like that they always feel less genuine even if everyone is in love and happy. I guess I'm just a person that loves a normal two person relationship everything else just feels complicated.

Calling monogamy normal to imply polyamory/polygamy being abnormal is probably part of the problem. It's the same kind of narrowmindedness that encourages other bigotry.

But, that aside, polyamory isn't for everyone, and it must not be for you either. However, there's nothing less genuine about a poly relationship than a two person relationship. You'd probably do well to work on not thinking about it like that and that might help you understand why others might want it.

whoa whoa wait... I have NOTHING against it at all if everyone is happy please be happy that's all I want for people. I guess I might have phrased what I said wrong please do not take it that way and if I offended you or anyone else I deeply apologize. My thought was mainly people just thinking "yay lesbian threesome" and not more outside of that.

I also never implied that poly of any kind was abnormal or anything like that when I said a normal two person relationship I legit meant just two people I just don't get where I implied it was abnormal for poly or anything like that.

You might not have done it intentionally, but the way your statement is presented you are implying that polyamory isn't normal, only the two-person relationship is. Additionally, even if you didn't mean it intentionally, by even making a statement about it in such a way "why do people want x thing and not a normal thing" you're further pushing the idea that polyamory is abnormal and people are abnormal for wanting it

I agree that the wording in the initial post was off, but you could read normal as a statistical statement, not a moral one, in which case polyamory isn't normal, in the same way that being 7 feet tall isn't, which is that it's not common.

I feel like pages 33 35 and 37 sorta imply a true love triangle, with Mao liking Yuki who likes Arashi who likes Mao
Maybe.
Atleast that's what I think arashis reaction on page 35 is supposed to imply.

I think this is accurate with the caveat that Arashi doesn't seem likely to pursue Mao even if she does feel attraction. She seems a bit more worldly than the other two and probably wouldn't get involved, I think anyway. Whereas Mao is obviously obsessed, and Yuki just had an awakening.

If this were actually a series I wouldn't be surprised to see Arashi dating someone other than those two.

I’d agree, it seems like arashi has stirrings in that direction but wouldn’t be likely to get into the nitty gritty of a love triangle. She’d see what was happening and probably nope out. At least that’s what I’d think/hope to happen. And then the other two probably wouldn’t work out either unless mao had some growth since she’s like the opposite of arashi

And if arashi were to get involved in the nitty gritty then I’d feel bad for yuki cause I don’t think it’s ever worked out for someone in her corner

Oooops! The kendo/archery mixup was definitely a mistake, not an intentional choice! Totally my fault; I must've just read "-dou" and jumped straight to kyuudou without looking back.

I've uploaded a correction now~

As much as I would have liked to see the relationship develop between Mao and Arashi, because I really feel like it could have been the main ship for this manga... but on the other hand I'm glad it's only an oneshot to avoid a horrible poly road that rarely leads to something readable and enjoyable.

Man, youth sure is messy. I don't typically like love triangles but I like angst so I wished this story continued.

Now we just need Arashi to have a crush on Mao and the triangle will be complete! (This would actually be my preferred pairing since I adore this type of dynamic)

The first panel here kind of implies that she does develop a crush on Mao, but it is a pretty understated reaction so your mileage may vary on the validity of this interpretation.

I hated Mao. Passionately. Exactly the type of pushy possessive asshole I can not stand. Also, is it my imagination, or is it kind of implied that Yuki's "unapproachable" reputation is the result of having a possessive freak such as Mao as her best friend?

On the one hand, Yuki is fairly sociable and outgoing with Arashi from the get-go, and also expresses her wish for Mao to have friends other than her (which would make it reasonable that she wants the same for herself, especially in light of how fast she befriended Arashi). On the other hand, she is perfectly aware that Mao does not want her to befriend other people, and Mao is very important to her. So my guess is that she keeps herself away from socialising with other people in order to placate Mao.

That would explain the apparent disconnect between Yuki's public image and how she acted with Arashi. There is also the fact that anyone who would potentially get close to Yuki would face the exact same vehement hatred and rudeness from Mao since basically the first second, and I imagine most people would immediately give up after that.

And even when Yuki invited Arashi to have lunch with them, she did it in part because she wanted Mao and Arashi to become friends, for Mao's benefit. All of which makes me believe that Yuki is entirely too mindful of Mao and is likely sacrificing her own social life in order to keep the nutjob happy.

I want a sequel.

Honestly, this was a pretty great oneshot. I think I missed the love triangle tag because at the end when Yuki starts falling for Arashi I really enjoyed the irony of Arashi trying to help Mao but unknowingly making it more difficult for her from joining their friendship group, hence title

I think it would be interesting as a series but only if Arashi never fell for either of them and is determined to be their friends and dates someone outside the circle. It could have some interesting complications with Arashi being Mao's biggest supporter and maybe trying to arrange double dates (which end up getting awkward), Mao getting frustrated when she sees how much Yuki wants to spend time with Arashi but is trying to tone down the possessiveness because Arashi has clearly said to her "I'm not a threat" but this could bubble over when she realises Yuki's crushing on Arashi, and Yuki being oblivious to Mao liking her is going through some introspection on having a crush on a friend and is unsure whether she wants to pursue it or even to confess when Arashi excitedly tells them about her dates

But I do like it as a oneshot, you KNOW there would be drama is this was a series

Yeah I noticed this too and saw it more as a start of a potential interest. Sorta like Arashi thinking, "huh so she does have a pretty cute side to her". I think she also had a similar reaction here where she first saw Mao's softer side.

Ugh the character dynamics have so much to explore. It would be great if the author eventually decides to continue it. It sort of feels like a tester one shot to gauge interest. (Could just be my own wishful thinking tho haha)
