Good day, terribly sorry if I'm not doing it right.. but may I request a name change? I hope it's not a bother.

Sure. What would you like to change your name to?

Mod Note

The political discussion ends now. Most folks here would like to discuss this series specifically, and heated political debate - of only tertiary relevance, at best - is a good way to prevent them from doing so. Any further posts on the matter will be removed without discretion. Any questions or follow-up may be directed to the Help thread. Thank you.

Comparison Notes

About half of the works chosen were voted to roughly the same places in both the Dynasty (DS) and YuriNavi (YN) elections:

  • 4 works appear in both top 10s (40%)
  • 11 works appear in both top 25s (44%)
  • 28 works appear in both top 50s (56%)

So maybe it's fair to say readers roughly like about half of the same works.

As the YN election received nearly 5 times as many responses, the increased number of votes created more detail in rankings and resulted in fewer ties. But still, if we compare the percentage of votes received by each work...

The 5 works with the greatest difference in popularity (YN > DS) were:

  1. Whisper Me a Love Song (+16.04%)
  2. There's No Love Wishing Upon a Star (+14.42%)
  3. My Wish is to Fall in Love Until You Die (+12.29%)
  4. There's No Way You Can Be My Lover* (+11.68%)
  5. The Skirt Sings at the Landing (+11.23%)

The 5 works with the greatest difference in popularity (DS > YN) were:

  1. How Do We Relationship? (+8.55%)
  2. Bloom Into You (+7.97%) -- even though this was 2nd in the YN results!
  3. Otherside Picnic (+7.68%)
  4. Girl Friends (+7.32%)
  5. The Guy I Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy At All (+7.11%)

The 5 works with the smallest difference in popularity were:

  1. Looking Up to Magical Girls (0.24%)
  2. Akebi's Sailor Uniform (0.30%)
  3. The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady (0.31%)
  4. Vampeerz (0.57%)
  5. Happy Sugar Life (0.63%)

Other works that were notably similar by ranking, if not by percentage:

  • Bloom Into You (1st in DS, 2nd in YN)
  • The Summer You Were There (T-9th in DS, 5th in YN)
  • The Moon on a Rainy Night (3rd in DS, 6th in YN)
  • The Blue Star on That Day (25th in DS, 20th in YN)
  • The Fed Up Office Lady Wants to Serve the Villainess (28th in DS, T-23rd in YN)
  • Maitsuki, Niwatsuki, Ooyatsuki (T-34th in DS, 40th in YN -- also would've been #6 on the list above, with a 0.64% difference)

The highest-ranked work in the YN poll to not receive a single vote in the DS poll was Kamiina Botan (T-34th).

The highest-ranked work in the DS poll to not receive a single vote in the YN poll was Beauty and the Beast Girl (T-29th).

Notes

The 2024 Dynasty Yuri Election received 369 complete responses, amounting to 1845 votes in total.

  • 429 different works received at least 1 vote.
  • 49 different works received at least 10 votes, appearing on over 2.5% of ballots.
  • 22 different works received at least 19 votes, appearing on over 5% of ballots.
  • 8 different works received at least 28 votes, appearing on over 7.5% of ballots.
  • 3 different works received at least 37 votes, appearing on over 10% of ballots.

Although oneshots were eligible to receive votes, only a single oneshot received more than 1 vote: Oosawa Yayoi's "Can I Get You To Go?" from the 2DK, G-Pen, Aftertime anthology (2 votes).

There was a definite preference for ongoing works, with 7 of the top 10 (70%) and 16 of the top 25 (64%) currently serialised.

The highest-ranked work without an official English translation was That Time I Was Blackmailed by the Class’s Green Tea Bitch in T-6th.
The highest ranked manga without an official English translation was I See You Aizawa-san in T-14th.

Most of the top 10 (90%) have an official English translation. That percentage diminishes the further down the rankings you go, with 68% of the top 25, 30% of the top 49, and 59% of the top 97 having official English translations.

The highest ranked work without an ongoing scanlation was How Do We Relationship? (on Dynasty as So Do You Want to Go Out, Or?) in 2nd.
The highest ranked work that has never been scanlated into English was She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat in T-58th.

Introduction

The Yuri Works General Election was a survey to find the favourite yuri works (manga, manhua, and/or manhwa) of the English-reading yuri community.

This survey was inspired by the Yuri Manga General Election run by YuriNavi, where Japanese readers vote on their favourite yuri manga, and was timed to coincide with their 6th and latest election. The hope was to use this survey to not only capture what yuri works were most popular in the English-reading yuri community, but also explore how our community's preferences compare to those in Japan.

Respondents to the survey were asked to name their 5 favourite yuri manga, manhua, and/or manhwa that have been translated into English. Responses were not ordered, and all 5 votes had equal weight. Prequels and sequels were considered one "work" (so a vote for Citrus was a vote for Citrus+, and vice versa); and only the manga/manhua/manhwa version of a work was considered (so a vote for Otherside Picnic was a vote for the manga version only, not the light novel or anime). All yuri manga, manhua, and manhwa works translated into English were eligible, whether they were oneshots or series; whether they were completed or currently running; whether they were originally published by an official publisher or were self-published; and whether the work had been translated into English by a scanlator, official publisher, or both.

Finally, for the purposes of this election, yuri was defined broadly as "involving close relationships between girls/women". Thus works that would be considered subtext (as opposed to yuri) by Dynasty tagging definitions were eligible here.

Thanks to everyone who shared their votes for their favourite works! The results will be presented in the next few posts:

Table of contents

  1. Category Spotlight -- the top-voted works in a few categories
  2. Top Ten -- the top ten highest-voted works
  3. Expanded Ranking -- a list of all works that received at least 5 votes
  4. Notes -- some notes about the Dynasty results
  5. YuriNavi Results -- the results of YuriNavi's 6th Yuri General Election

Would Ikoku Nikki qualify for this poll? It's not exactly Yuri or Subtext. Even with the Lesbian sidecouple, that's not exactly the main focus.

For fringe cases like this, I'd say it's up to the voter. If it's "yuri" enough to be in your top 5, go for it.

Question: are webtoons valid nominations? I'm thinking of a Korean one at the moment, but would American ones also be acceptable?

Webtoons are completely valid! Specifically webtoons translated from Japanese, Chinese, or Korean are valid. Webtoons natively in English are not valid.

Just so I get this right: this is not about recency in neither release nor scanlation, right? If I wanted, could I just name 5 "old" works?

Yep! My list included Prism, Notes From the Garden Of Lilies and The Blue Star on That Day. So, recent or "old," or actually old, they're all good!

Congrats on making it through 2024! Here's to an even better 2025!

Let's start it off right. For the first time in several years, famed yuri hub Yuri Navi has returned with a new general yuri survey aimed at Japanese readers, to satisfy a very important question: what's your favourite yuri manga? In light of this occasion we had the idea to run one of our own, aimed at the English-speaking community!

The premise is very simple. You get 5 votes with which to choose your 5 favourite (unordered) yuri manga, manhua, and/or manhwa. The election runs until January 7th, 2025. In late January, Yuri Navi will release the results of their survey, and we'll release the results of ours too (with, hopefully, some nice fancy comparisons, graphs, etc.).

If you have any questions, please use this thread for them. Click the link, read the things, and vote! Thank you! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfYjgRPjNaEA4d6Pg99TY0ayJ6fpWPA6dcCa-kfs8kl2WPOuQ/viewform

Watching the anime which doesn't really live up to the manga for various reasons, BUT one that stood out especially was the distance in dialogue. I never quite appreciated how vividly translated this series was till now. Real hall of fame characterizations in here! Amazing work.

This story is almost impossible for me to write about. I absolutely loathe how it makes me feel. The characters are so abjectly sad, the circumstances are often so ugly, and yet the framing remains grounded and often light-hearted. There are an incredible number of words and thoughts and feelings and meanings packed into it, and I hate them all unreservedly.

I really hope someday we get another story like this in yuri. If not, an artist like Ninomiya Hikaru who’s able to squeeze so much personality and character out of a story that should have so much less.

Postscript: it seems rather obvious to me, given the circumstances in which the story ended, that Asami is intended to be alive. That the author was able to do this for me and give others vastly different opinions is pretty interesting.

If you don't want to read stories involving romance of these ages, avoid the tags that label it as such. If you must comment negatively, don't go after people personally like this. Not good.

Hi, I'm really new here! I'm so, so, so in love with this site. I'm not sure if this is the right place to "request tags" or if that's even a thing we're allowed to do, but I saw somebody else ask for a tag to be made a thing, and nobody told them not to do that. So, here's my request. Can we have a #petplay tag? I've noticed that a lot of the art under the #BDSM tag seems to also be petplay, and I think it would make it easier to users to search for (or avoid!!) art with themes of petplay if it is tagged as such. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, if it is, can I be directed to the right place? Thank you for your help.

Hello! Thank you for your kind words! Glad you're enjoying the site.

This is absolutely the right place to discuss tags. Assuming you're asking for that tag in a positive sense - and not because you wish to avoid it - would you be able to link a couple examples? I think themes surrounding the BDSM tag can be categorized a bit better than they are currently, so I'm definitely open to a Pet play tag being added. Just want to get a sense of what might fit there, in your thinking. Thanks!

You bring no smiles of joy to anyone's face by doing this, and instead bury a cool series. Why shoot yourself in the foot this way?

As we become current with the Webtoons releases we'll start getting some chapters on the front page, and the series will be featured at that time, too. Unfortunately we don't have a system in place for posting 40+ chapters on the front page without burying everything else released during the same time period. Just a technical shortcoming.
