I mean, this entire "alpha beta omega" concept is just a mess xD but w.e, story was fluffy enough and it's Takemiya Jin art

I don't get this omegaverse/beastiality traits nonsense.

Why not just make more yurixfutanari mangas/series? Same thing without the animalistic like crap.

I will point you to look at primal play stuff.

Actually now I think about it, omegaverse seems to be the scenario where primal play is the thing (even if the original isn't aimed that iirc), like a version of society where it's all primal / prey going on.

A bit like primal version of those everyone is Dom or sub or switch AUs. BDSM AUs are great too...

To me, ABO stuff reads like 'What if humans did some stuff that some furries did, with regards to animalistic/feral tendencies and a fixation on breeding, but while still in human skin?'

Exactly--give these characters fuzzy ears and a tail and I'm guessing the reader hostility drops off considerably.

Of course, Takemiya Jin's previous characters often acted like they already had fuzzy ears and a tail (and feral libidos) anyway.

In the middle of a flood of comments to say "I like ABO" or "I hate ABO" it's refreshing to find a consequent message that actually provides some food for thought. Well done!

Polite request

Take your problems with ABO to a thread about ABO and not into stories that have ABO as part of the theme.

I'd rather read what your takes are about the story and how the ABO is used here than your opinion about ABO.

That seems kind of tall order, because readers feelings for this story would be inexorably linked with their feelings about the ABO.
For me I don't think I like the whole ABO thing. It seems to be applying our two gender sensibilities to a world where that would be meaningless. Also I stopped fantisizing about girls going into heat and uncontrollably craving sex, when I was 14.
For the story itself, it's cute so far. I'm looking forward to the next part, but nothing in the story itself struck me as comment worthy, outside the ABO thing.

Can't say I care about this omegaverse stuff, but I can't say no to Takemiya Jin either.

You're still commenting on the story. There were literally comments here that were nothing but "I hate omegaverse".

I’m really loving the recent ABO manga I’ve been seeing lately.

Hooboy, this thread is a rollercoaster. I'll just be sitting here eating my popcorn.

Anyway, I can't wait for the second part of this. =)

Omegaverse generally bores me, but stories that play with the tropes like this one entertain me. The added bonus of no rape was a definite plus as well.

I think the only time I like omegaverse is if it actually has a good plot line. The last yuri omegaverse I read wasn't as nearly good in the first chapter lol

I can understand why people wouldn't like this kind of stuff, but I think page 7 of this story does a pretty good job of explaining the appeal for those who do, honestly.

I wouldn't usually like the sort of rapey tropes that omegaverse promotes in what appears to be a cute schoolgirl romcom. I guess the "defective alpha" thing is a way to have the omegaverse setting without the rapeyness of it.

I've not seen much ABO before, but isn't the takeaway here really just the alpha in this case can't give the MC children? Which like.. is the same in any other Yuri manga. And it's easy for it just to be them two flirting because everyone else is a beta (and easy to insert drama by adding another alpha). I just don't really see the point of it I guess

Omegaverse really bleeding heavily into yuri huh. It's popular in fanfiction in the west and I've seen a lot in Chinese yuri (both original and fan works) and there's some in Korean stuff.

Tbh I used to hate it a lot since it's a popular setting for porn and putting penises and pregnancy in yuri without having any transwomen involved. Also just putting rigid gender roles via the alpha = hypermasculine role and omega = hyperfeminine role into gay relationships. Those are the really bad things about the setting if done in a way that uses the setting at face value.

I think omegaverse can be good depending on how it's used and if the shit societal rules that are usually introduced are addressed in some way. Like at least pointing out the issues with heat cycles and loss of control that leads to assault and shit like that. It'll be better if the characters are actively fighting against the prescribed roles they have as an omega or alpha. Or even better is if the pairing ends up AA or OO cause that's double gay since that's actively fighting against their instincts to find an "opposite gender."

I can't say this work by Takemiya Jin is breaking out if the box or anything, but the "defective alpha" thing going on is a unique spin on the traditional AO pairings. It's also not straight up porn and assault is looked down upon based on the introduction so it's already looking better than most omegaverse stories. I find that SFW omegaverse stuff tends to be much less "problematic" than ones that are just used as a porn setting, which makes sense.

I hope Takemiya expands more on what defective alphas are and how that works cause that's an interesting concept in itself. Is she just a beta with alpha pheromones or is she an alpha who wasn't able to fully develop her other characteristics or what? How are they treated by society since most settings would ostracize her for being a "failed" alpha or would it be celebrated since it seems alphas are viewed more negatively here? Anyways I'm interested to see how Takemiya spins this cause I've yet to see any characters like this in an omegaverse setting.

I feel I'm stepping on a landmine here but I admit I got curious by this sentence: is it in general seen as more ok to add dicks if they're on a girl? I'd guess some people into yuri wouldn't like any dicks at all.

Do you mean if it's on a cis girl? If that's what you mean, then yes and it comes from a transphobic mindset that transwomen aren't real women because their bodies are assigned male at birth. Omegaverse female alpha penis and m!preg action are similar to futa where they try very hard to sidestep any mention of transness so it's just kinda insensitive at best.

I personally much prefer it when they keep it to pheromone stuff if they want to go the pregnancy route. The omegaverse setting is already a suspension of disbelief so if you add in "alphas can impregnate omegas of the same sex through pheromones" as another setting, it wouldn't be weird. Usually that's done through biting/marking someone's pheromone emitting glands (located on the nape of the neck).

Ah, meant for as "Is adding a girl with a dick more ok than a guy with a dick?". I guess it's less male to just have the dick but I also guess even just a dick might be too much male for some.

Haha, it's funny because to me that is more weird than the option you mention first :D

In this type of fictional setting I'd assume trans people could exist but also totally new types that are girls with dicks?

Yeah you'd assume, but they don't really address that most of the time. So with certain omegaverse settings, they don't have you be an alpha/beta/omega until you reach adulthood or reach puberty. Usually it's called differentiation and once you differentiate into either alpha, beta, or omega, that's considered your secondary sex.

I've seen some works that have an alpha character who wanted and thought she would become an omega and ended up becoming an alpha feel gender dysphoria about it. They didn't handle that perfectly imo, but it was still an interesting concept. In the same work, they had a character who was an alpha who crossdressed(?) as an omega so that was also interesting. She did that by disguising her pheromone.

Takemiya having one of her characters be a defected alpha is kinda in a similar vein? Almost like she's an intersex character but I hesitate to compare it without further information.

I think the main character being interested in Omegaverse mythology in a taking-seventeen-surveys kind of way is the sort of real-world plausibility that makes me a little interested in this.

I guess the whole "failed alpha" thing is kind of a way to brush away the more bioessentialist aspects of the setup too.

I haven't read a lot of the comments in-depth because I don't know why people think other people care about their opinion on ABO.

So has anyone talked about the sequel to this? I was confused by the translation notes. Are they still planning to translate the next one, or are they asking someone else to do it?
