I had a hard time following the fight scene for some reason.

Still love Sadako, though I'm confused as to why she reacted this way. Has there been some mention of her being called demon in the past? I can't recall.

These chapters feel so short :/

Probably because they are. The first volume 20+ pages in each chapter, while the second mostly has 16.

In the first chapter it was made clear that Sadako had killed people before, and didn't really comprehend that she had done so. My guess is that Mone's actions triggered Sadako's instincts to start 'playing' and she simply has no comprehension of the fact that she was actually 'attacking.'

Yeah I think Sadako is generally "feral", she steps up to a fight because she thinks it's fun. That's part of why I'm enjoying the action direction of the series, Sadako being a battle maniac is a type of lesbian protagonist we don't see often unfortunately.

actually i think the problem is that we're only on chapter 11 and there's already a massive ensemble of characters with a bunch of different agendas and there are new concepts and developments happening at breakneck speed. its hard to keep track of it all, and we've hardly had time with our original couple. it's unfocused.

Yeah it's been fun. Enjoyed seeing her switch flip there.

i don't recall who the mangaka was that had an afterword strip of them seeing a bunch of older women on tv, going "aaa so pretty, i love her" to each one and their partner being all "have you no dignity woman?" and their response "I just like them, they're all so neat". But that's what I imagine Sal Jiang is like.

Sal Jiang said on twitter several times that she's rather into older women.

i dont think sal jiang's strengths lie in action scenes, it's pretty hard to parse what's going on. kind of lame when that's basically the whole chapter :/ i had high hopes for this manga from the beginning but it's been losing me for a bit.

Go read black & white if you think Sal Jiang can't do action scenes. Though I do think it's fair to say that this particular type of action scene, where the focus is on flashy effects and big movements, doesn't play to her strengths as well as the more grounded, up close, and intimate fights in Black & White.

Also, it's a bit interesting that of the four manga I think of when it comes to unhinged lesbians reveling in violence (Black & White, Liberta, Love/Death, and Murcielago) three of the four authors also have rather cute offerings. And then there's Yoshimura Kana. I also want more from all four of them, but that's less of a surprise.

I will say she needs more practice with action scenes like this, but I think that's okay and I think she'll improve over time. It's good for creators to do works that are outside of their comfort zones in my opinion, as it helps them grow in the long term.

Ah, once again, Hanako demonstrates her anti-magic abilities, no-selling Sadako's spell and (apparently) forcing open a magically-locked door without even noticing it.

This manga is awesome, but personally I am not a fan of battle shonen type of stories, which is the course this manga taking imo

Sexy women carry it for me

The basic ingredients of battle shonen can be summed up as a focus on action-packed adventure with an emphasis on strategy, unique power sets, male homosociality, and masculine self-actualization. (Also, beloved tropes like the hero solving problems by punching them really hard.) In this series, there are some characters with special abilities, but there is little interest in strategy or match-ups, so action scenes are short and scarce. And it's been a while since we've seen a named male character.

It's just interesting that a brief action scene involving female characters can somehow invite comparison to the genre where female heroes aren't just less common but their sidelining and general humiliation is basically part of the appeal.

i feel the exact same way. there's like 15 pages worth of story being laid out within like 3-5 pages. i want to like this whole cast of characters but there's pretty much only enough space in the story for hanako and sadako. the past few chapters especially have been the most story heavy but they've only averaged 16-17 pages.

So she's basically immune to magic, makes me feel like she's gonna become a witch hunter since they practically can't do anything to her.

Mh, an actual witch-conflict plot in the background(?). Unexpected, I gotta say. Feels a bit ... lazy to just them die while sitting around? When everyone frequently teleports as they want ...

New group and more characters, I'm still enjoying the series but I also am understanding the critiques on pacing. I just hope the general world building and character introductions even out over time.

I think only one character has been shown with the ability to teleport others and she seemed unwilling to send anyone into the fight.
