The start was pretty good, but the over the top cartoonish abusing uncle and cousins are a bit too ridiculous.
It's a little lazy, but it's more efficient to have extreme setup to justify the extreme elements. Mundane and nuanced complex case of child abuse doesn't warrant intervention by a supernatural monster, not that the readers would be interested in such details in the first place.
And the whole thing with some random monster or whatever ripping the cousin and her apart was kinda weird.
It's a monster. What do you expect, it filing a report to the child protection service, then accompanying the police dropping by for a investigation and a stern reprimand?
Even the “how can I go to hell…when I’m already in hell…?” line was a little cringe lol.
Eh, that's a dramatic line, real life humans don't really talk like that in the same situation (they just whimper, cry, scream either for help or in rage of battle), but we don't go into supernatural horror fiction drama to see normal reactions, do we?
