Anything dark is edgy and any dialogue that doesn't follow the MCU writing style is cringe.
I don't get this post.
First of all, the quip about already being in hell is 100% a quip you would hear in a marvel movie, which is probably why they found it cringe. It's out of place BECAUSE it is a marvel quip, not because it isn't, you have it backwards.
Second of all, there is a large difference between a series being dark and a series being edgy, and dismissing any criticism as "you just think anything dark is edgy" is non-productive and childish. "perfect blue" is a very dark movie, but you wouldn't call it edgy like you would for series like "akame ga kill" or "magical girl site" that relies more on shock value and has less subtlety. The family members were one-dimensional plot devices and written like over-the-top Saturday morning cartoon villains so the author can just have them be dismembered by a monster afterwards. There's nothing wrong with a series being edgy (it's not inherently a negative thing), i really love series like "roll over and die" and "kitakawa" but let's call a spade a spade here, they're very edgy.
For a more yuri comparison; "otherside picnic" and "I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day" are also very dark yuri without being overly edgy. There's never a moment in Sorawo's backstory where her father smashes a beer bottle of her head and says she should be hung like her mom and go to hell or anything like that. The series is dark, but it's not over the top cartoony with it, and i think that is a big factor in it.
Sorry for the long post, but i just don't see how you can read this and deny that it's edgy. Just own it
