I think I'm with Kase on this one, maybe for the first time in the sequel series, lol.

Yamada may not have quite hit her breaking point yet, but she was heading there in a hurry. I can't really fault Kase for being a bit short with Yamada, between getting stood up and realizing that her rushing to make the competition would just be furthering her exhaustion. Sometimes a bit of tough love is what it takes to get through to someone you care about.

The mint dying is probably the biggest indicator of how dire things are. Those suckers are hardy. XD

I think they still love each other, and that Kase likely has Yamada's health in mind first and foremost because she cares. Kase does need to work on her attitude and her approach, Yamada needs to work on saying no more. While the drama roller coaster is often frustrating I do still believe they both genuinely love the other, and that there's still a believable human element to the characters having flaws.

How do you make mint wither? That plant is unkillable.

Yamada working too hard is going to end up bad one day, so it definitely time for a wake up call. Also, the store is kind of terrible for not being prepared and forcing her to take more hours at the last minute. I would be mad if my work place did that to me.

But do I not like Kase's attitude at all even if she is right. There plenty of chances to talk it out without that scene playing out like that. And the things she did before still got me judging her like "girrrrrrl, really?".

(Edit: I admit I'm been harsh and in the end Yamada still needs to hear it)

Have to say, I love the balance at least.

First we had that absolute nonsense that was Kase's inability to shut down her fellow track team members when they were apartment hunting, now we have Yamada's absence of spine being a problem (again). Isn't this at least the second time Yamada has failed to show up to a track meet she said she would attend? Can't fault Kase for being pissed about it, but as evidenced by her forgetting Doi entirely, who knows if she even remembers.

I kind of liked Kase's attitude, but that's only because angry Kase is hot.

Welp, what Kase is saying to Yamada is correct and valid in isolation. But at the same time, she is probably the last person to be morally justified for complaining about her girlfriend neglecting their relationship to please a third party, given her, uh, track record with that.

except neglecting their relationship isn't the main thing Kase is complaining about. Like, of course she's upset that Yamada misses the race but what she really gets on her case about how she's running herself ragged for a part-time job and neglecting her health.

She says "Don't bother coming" but what she means is "It's hot here, you're exhausted, go rest instead."

Very true—it can mean that at a literal level. But in a relationship, “Don’t bother” is kind of a rhetorical hammer, as compared to “You don’t need to” or “I’m worried you’ll be too hot,” etc.

Not that either of them are expert communicators . . .

Yeah, I think she meant both things at once (based on her behaviour in the chapter).

She wants Yamada to take care of herself but she also was upset that Yamada would choose something else over her race and that emotion made her act rude here.

The tone of that "don't bother," felt laced with more than just care for Yamada's health and I also didn't appreciate it much considering her own much more disruptive history.

She even hung up the phone on her. That wasn't just from concern, especially when she twitched and said "I might've done better if you were here." That's more than just worry about health. "Health" is just an easier, less debatable, argument for her to lead with.

That is how I have read her "Don't bother", too: IMO Kase is primarily upset about Yamada not being there to cheer her on, but masks it under an equally real, but less selfish concern for her health. It's just that the way Kase behaves in this chapter reminds me much more of a person in emotional pain who lashes out angrily (if in a subdued manner), rather than of concerned caretaker.

At least this drama arc is a lot more plausible (to this non-Japanese reader) than the race arc. Yamada being a pushover at her job, and overworking in general, seems perfectly plausible, as is Kase's clumsy concern+lashing out.

I was coming to say the same thing. “Is your job really that important to you” girl DO NOT even go there like you have ANY room to talk

That is one way to solve it, I guess... But at least Yamada is finally noticing what she's been neglecting at home, so this may have been for the best indeed.

I still remember the first title I encounter the manga, and it starts with Kase san and the Morning Glory
How time flies with their progression, from high school to college.
In my opinion, this is more like a couple's fight.
Kase san is a little angry that not only Yamada san breaks her promise, she also neglected herself so much that Kase san got angry about it.
She might not able to word it well her concern, but she genuinely cares about her.
After all, that's Kase san's authentic self.
It's only when the two are this close that the other could see the real self of the others.
One who always care about others more than self, and the other who actually is an ace, might be not having a so-good attitude but seeing through Yamada san who has been lying low and gone unnoticed for such a long period of time.
She even bought her ring.
I think she sincerely thought of Yamada san as her other half who she genuinely care and wanted to be together in this series.

Actually now that it reminds me of the high school version of Yamada san. She was always by herself as the gardening committee to take care of the plants by herself, and would even go to such extra length to come back during school break to take care of the plants when she heard the news of the bad weather report just so the plants could survive.

I wonder if for the next chapter Yamada san will start changing herself little by little, learning to take care of herself.

So close. If it weren't for the "I'm not coming home until you do take a break," bit I would be completely on Kase's side. I get that this dramatic, pushy behavior is her character, but it's still frustrating.

It wouldn't be the fluffy yuri manga we know about if they break up.
Aren't Kase san's manga centered around the relationship between Kase san and Yamada san?
What's the point if it becomes bad ending? ಠ︵ಠ

OH, but!
If anyone wants to see breakups, they can always try tmfly's manga "So, do you want to Go out or?"

(I'm sorry. I forgot how to do /spoiler tag again)

Oh yeah I don't seem them breaking up, and I personally want them to work out their issues instead of breaking up. Though since they're likely never breaking up and this manga will probably go on for awhile longer, I predict we'll see more years of people saying they just need to break up already. I think there's a whole portion of readers that think them breaking up would be a good ending, largely because they despise Kase with every fiber of their being. Even if Kase grows and their relationship improves I think the people that hate her are likely dying on that hill until the end of the series. So I guess...it is what it is lol
