Not to derail the hype train for the plot finally happening, but what was the reason for this whole brothel binge in the first place? She knew Mai as a kid right? Was there a reason given as to why she couldn't just call her mom or something?

I don't recall a reason being given (though it has been a while since I read from the beginning). I guess I just assumed she lost contact with Mai's family as well. It certainly wouldn't be the most unbelievable thing I've come across. People move, change phone numbers, etc.

edit: just double checked, chapter 1 says Mai's family moved away and Asumi's mom didn't know their new address. That'd be the reason.

i do love this series being just a nonstop string of oddly wholesome smut and it probably could continue like that in perpetuity and I wouldn't hate it but I really hope the plot actually kicks into gear this time and it isn't a fake out like the last time.

At this point AsumixSenpai has been teased more than AsumixMai... and I'm still not sure if either is happening soon. We could still get a fakeout again. And Senpai is almost in First Girl territory, so them getting together might not happen until endgame.
Still, I hope they actually meet, it's not like Asumi would stop hiring girls after that...

Asumi and Mai are teased in the sense that Asumi finding Mai is The Plot, and I think Mai somehow knows Asumi is looking for her and wants her to succeed, though I'm not sure about that. Mutual desire that's frustrated by poor communication ability.

I suspect Senpai really would enjoy a round with Asumi, and isn't just teasing her, but Asumi seems to have her solidly friendzoned.
