Akira got done so dirty holy shit, I am not that mad on account that the second to last chapter felt that was heavily hinting at a Yuri ending, but holy shit did they have to do best girl so dirty ?

Thinking back on this series, I do feel like it got worse after a certain point, or at least less appealing to me, and that's around when the student council was introduced as villains. The story shifted from Satsuki vs fate or nature or happenstance, a human fighting ephemeral and unknowledgeable forces, to a human fighting her student council president and his wack self-justifying ideas. He's just far less interesting than Satsuki trying to combat Final Destination. Far lower stakes and far less potential in him. Even other human antagonists would have been better, he's not just a worse antagonist than Death he's a worse antagonist than Miho's yandere kohai. And I kinda got the impression the author also regretted making him the principle antagonist given how things shook out, but they couldn't take it back and having to deal with him painted the last quarter or so of this manga with a feeling of frustration and disconnection. I'd imagine much of what happened had to be figured out with the editor, going back and forth to try to find some path to some satisfying ending, rather than this being the natural artistic conclusion. The final notes are actually decently satisfying, I like Komachi just as much as I like Akira, but our path to it felt like a rough draft forced to stand in as the final draft due to the nature of the medium and serialization.

I’d sign on to pretty much all of this—not a terrible series by any means, but one that did seem to lose its way after a fairly strong start.

What about the relationship between Satsuki and her dad? Did I miss something?

There were two bonus extras posted after the main story, does anyone know if the SL is going to do those?

Epilogue's scanlated on Mangadex.

Despite the mess this series became in its latter half and its ending, I honestly found the epilogue to be really satisfying. The interpersonal drama aspects of the manga have always been more engaging than its attempts at social commentary, so its nice to wrap things up with a chapter about the main character's relationships with their friends and family as opposed to the rather dry and heavy-handed Chapter 83.

i will now proceed to fill the SatsuKira-shaped-hole in my SatsuKira-shaped-heart with Miho/Akira's mom age gap yuri

I think this works if you have the epilogue chapter as an ending (like I just happened to, fortunately). It's just one more chapter, but it gives enough contextually to wrap everything up in a way that I feel satisfied, as a non-yuri reader.

As a yuri reader, though? No matter how sub you want or don't want your subtext to be, these two are at the very least confirmed to be in a relationship emotionally as close as the one in the early chapters of Trying Out Marriage With My Female Friend. And those two are fucking married from the start. We know how that one turned out.

That's at the very least: as in, if you interpret it in the most "oh they're just gal pals" way possible. Which I feel is pretty clear is not what they are.

Still, the fact that we needed an epilogue to have an actual ending does show how rushed the last volume and chapter were. I imagine people who were actually keeping up with the manga and read the ending as it was in April found it devastating.

My man, she didn't just tackled someone in the train station. In fact, that part would be a good one for the dad to start thinking deeply about his daughter's actions, but oh well, at least there was something about the relationship of satsuki with her dad. Komako looks like a kid sitting on her mother's lap.

Komako terminally unwilling to do housework, Miho revealed to be a milfhunter. Satsuki finally gets her dad to stop being an unreasonable prick. Akira... is here too (and to be fair coming in and cooking for these two does not seem to be a one time thing so they're certainly still very close)

And my god that final page. There is no heterosexual explanation for sharing a chair like that lmao.

Goddamn, grown-up Akira is so hot. Satsuki, I get that Komachi has her strong points that shine through in this chapter, but girl, you are missing out so much...

Also, I still think that Minadzuki Sr. does not deserve to be let off the hook as easily as Satsuki is probably going to let him. I have really hoped that at least Komachi would call him out on his bullshit, but even she has taken the indirect route.

I like the epilogue but I feel bad for poor third wheel Akira lol. And yeah that pose of them sharing a chair with their legs entwined is super duper cute

Do they get together because they both have powers? Poor Akira.

Akira should've got Sae. Aside from that, very nice epilogue. I actually like how casual it is showing Satsuki and Komachi's relationship even without telling you.

im so glad it was komako who got through to satsukis dad, you can feel the care she has for her as she wanted to give her something important to her too

Blimey! I didn't think Satsuki was that much taller than Komako. Did Satsuki get even taller after High School? Komako must've shrunk or remained the same size. In any case, that picture of them in the chair is adorable. One of my favourite relationship dynamics is "tall and small", and those two pull it off splendidly.

Would've been nice if Satsuki's old man got knocked upside the head.

Oh well, at least the prez is still dead. Still waiting on Sayo to pull her head out of her ass.

Satsuki's consistently been a head or more taller than every other character except her dad in the series. Akira and Komachi both make Satsuki look like a giant in comparison when they're standing next to each other lol.

Yup, Satsuki is tall enough to princess-carry her girls.

I really think that they should have gone with Akira in the end. Not so much because I prefer Akira as a character, but rather because there was hardly any chemistry between Satsuki and Komachi up until the final volume. Komachi didn't even have a personality for the better part of the series. Though I do understand the "necessity" of them being together.

I think this is in line a more general feeling that a lot of what happened in the last volume were things that the author had thought of from the beginning, but didn't manage to properly lead up to. Not only her relationship with Satsuki, but Komachi's whole arc was extremely rushed, as it was introduced at the last minute. It seems like the author got sidetracked by the student council president shenanigans and forgot to work on—what I assume to have been—one of the main plot points of the series.

Overall, not a terrible series. It had its ups and downs and unfortunately the ending was more of the latter. I might reread it in the far future to see if my opinion on it changes.
