The main thing that changed is that my translation is just a bit different and the art style is different. I think the text itself is pretty much the same.

i went and read the other one and actually didn't expect that so many panels remained the same structurally (but it makes sense). the first comment had me thinking the narratives diverged.

That was a more wholesome ending than I thought it'd be, considering the tags.

While the art is much cleaner and more detailed in this version than the original, I feel like the latter does not hit home as hard as the latter. At least for me, the emotional catharsis was much rawer and felt much more viscerally in the original version. The original focused primarily on the pain Sachie and, to a lesser degree, Rika were both feeling, and the more laconic lines (though this may be due to a different translation team) and sparse backgrounds of the original conveyed the tunnel vision of being in pain so much more authentically than the book version.

It is, but at the same time, she still have a crush over somebody she hasn't met in ten years... I mean, her crush is probably not the same person anymore. I do understand lingering feelings, but being desperate to that point is not healthy. I guess, it's for her the beginning of her healing process.

Actually this story can be a lot darker and depressing if you think what was left behind the scenes. For one example that late Rika girl can be in love with Sachie too, but afraid to be rejected and thinks that it's something "wrong" with her to like other girls. That's why she cut all communication with Sachie and start to do porn with men. And if Sachie found Rika in porn maybe Rika found one or two videos with Sachie too and finally give up on everything seeing as her dearest one sleeping with men.

same. i thought there were significant changes but eh, they were just the same.

this story was a roller coaster for me tho. went from first thinking "oof, is this tragic bc of the suicide tag" to "wait, i've read works with that tag before and it was just attempts and mc gets to have the will to live again today, maybe this too isn't tragic," to freaking feeling like someone just poured a bucket of cold water on me when i got to page 18. and then cried for a few minutes TT_TT.
that page also makes this version better for me than the original bc reading it for the the first time, my heart dropped when i first saw that page as i thought that that was the end bc of the way it was framed, with a thick black border like those significant one page (flashback) reveal scenes. since the original didn't have the same framing (?, idk if my terms are right), it lacked that punch to it. at least for me (or maybe it's bc i was spoiled already but i feel like it's the former rather than the latter)

I'd say the original or more raw, not grittier. The remake's art is more detailed, with much finer lines and backgrounds, but IMO this distracts from the characters and defuses the pain they are dealing with, which is why it feels more sanitized, as you have said.
