Am I missing something? Why would they need body armor?

Presumably the body armor would protect from love bullets/ammo - the only times in Chapter 0 the Cupids were hit were when body armor was rendered useless (Kanna was shot in the head and there's not much you can do with a grenade at your feet).

In general it looks like more of a personal preference for the Cupids. Chiyo is the least protected + casually dressed in just a flight jacket but is clearly the most competent fighter of the gang, so it could speak to her confidence in winning bouts with other Cupids without needing any protection.

knee pads/gloves aside, i was thinking koharu's body armor was related to how she died, but maybe that's just a coincidence.

i went and read the other one and actually didn't expect that so many panels remained the same structurally (but it makes sense). the first comment had me thinking the narratives diverged.

same, though i went back and skimmed the first chapter of a face you shouldn't show (what i thought might have been similar bc one of the characters works in a comparable setting) and it was much more different than i remembered, oops. so uh, not that one.

as for this creator, i don't remember much about octave, while brides of iberis had a few scenes that i liked but i think it let me down overall and i kept wishing the art was more proportional. i'll give this one a chance, i guess?

I honestly don't see this as a bad ending. I think all or almost all adolescent loves have to end, and it's rare for one to end in such a way that gives somebody so much insight. She learned her own sexual orientation, about love, about loss, and about how love can hurt people in unintentional ways.

love this interpretation! also i'm glad this was on featured; it led me to discover the author's other works too.
