It's following the official english names (iirc from the website of the manga)

iirc they took these name changes from the anglicizations of the names on the official website. Which was kind of a mistake to me personally. The pronunciation of Shiina and Sheena is still the same, the latter is just the "english" writing of that pronunciation. Doesn't really add anything to the work imo.

The official German release also still uses the "proper" romanized names: Shiina, Ari, Seiran, Esther.

We changed the names to follow the official spellings that was introduced by the author.

To be honest, I felt like the original spellings were chosen because, as you said, it's the way you would romanize their names, as the original scanlators did not have access to these resources. Once we have the official spelling, I had a discussion with the original translator, and we both agree that it's best to use official spelling going forward.

The decision to change the spelling wasn't made lightly, and I apologize if it made anyone feeling uneasy after seeing them.

Well now that does give context to the change, so it’s all good no need to apologize! we manga readers are a little warry of any official english translation since we already got quite a few…..bad ones is putting it lightly but won’t get into that can of worms.
