I believe that the mistress subplot might even be another way for Komichi to grapple with what "love" really entails. If she loves Erika, is that enough? If Erika loves her, does that mean she really has her all to herself? Etc.

Same with the idol subplot. Akebi has the adoration of the students, but that's indirectly causing problems for her relationship and school life.
It looks as if there is no way she can get out without facing consequences (or at least the school is framing it that way). If she and Erika break up on stage, she is disappointing her fans and retroactively ruining the performance they worked so hard for. But, not doing that can cause reputational damage to the school (which the school can frame as indirectly hurting the students) and cause trouble to her, Erika and the rest of the theater club. It really is a sticky situation. I feel like akebi has the resilience to rebel and maybe even call the school out on its hypocrisy of stating "personal freedom" so long as that freedom leads yo into doing the "normal" thing

Tl:DR answer: yes there's a short skip, yes it is Erika, who apparently got her hair cut. No they haven't broken up, Akebi suggest (doing a play of) breaking up to stop the yurification of the school. Yes they are dating, but I feel like Akebi doesn't quite get the specifics yet.

Very long answer + a bit of speculation:
It's definitely Erika, (they talk about being in the theater club, she calls Akebi "komichi" which I think only her family does)
Akebi is suggesting breaking up (maybe not even for real, just having a performance of breaking up) to stop the yuri boom. Erika immediately shuts the suggestion down.

I feel like akebi only suggested it without really thinking about how she felt about it and, even though she doesn't like it, she suggests it because she is thinking in a problem solving way, it will be interesting to see how she reacts next chapter, when Erika's reaction makes the emotional stakes clear to her.

I also think that Akebi hasn't quite realized that her emotions about Erika aren't irrational and she should act on them more, she says that if Erika is serious about the girl who proposed to her she should date her. The lighting getting darker in the scene as she says it makes it clear that she doesn't like saying it but I think she either doesn't get how far she is allowed to go in wanting Erika for herself (because she is a people pleaser with a bit of a tendency to put herself last) or that she still feels like she isn't good enough (despite Erika going "you are so awesome it sometimes makes me mad)

Honestly the school should just stop being such hardasses about everything. Or maybe this will be the start of Akebi and Erika's rebel arc.

I have been wondering that all along. Has the fact that the MC has been notionally “cheating” substantially affected the story at all except for the initial “try kissing a girl” premise? I really can’t recall.

I mean it was probably just the case that the author wrote him back into the story to maybe bring drama into it again, but decided against it and this chapter is just to get that plot point out of the way. Or maybe he will have some supporting role later and this was setup for that

Oh and of course there's another letter. We're going all the way back to 1916 with this one.

Flash forward another 50 chapters and Kasumi is performing 12 different sceances to everyone who left a letter in those books

This honestly made me want a story about miorine visiting suletta's family in Alaska and dealing with the cold and prospera being super passive aggressive.

It was just amusing to me how differently this series has taken it in comparison. Even when someone's survival needs are known out of the gate, even when it further has been explained in a practical way, the personality types and romcom-ness of it all is where there's room for drama. If their more practical 3rd wheel friend was involved it would have been a short series.

50% of Romcom plots can be solved by adding a very pissed off tilty claret into the mix, so she can sit the protagonist down and tell them how they are being dumb. (Kind of reminds me of my own experience with friends in relationships.)

Back in ch 61 we found out Kaoru had a breakdown and stopped eating when Shizuka broke up with her. I wonder if she's worried that Honoka will react in a similar way if she loses Elisha?

I'd love if we get an entire chapter about Kaoru worrying about this and when Elisha does leave japan, Honoka is a bit bummed out but when she goes to check on Honoka in her room she is happily drawing and video calling Eli. and then Kaoru feels like an idiot for thinking her sister was that fragile.

They 100% had me going there for a minute XP I feel really dumb now. To be fair though, they're no reason why they aren't dating at this point

I'm calling it, if they start dating suddenly time will matter again in this story and Eli will have to go back to the US

Bro the way Mayoi is completely manhandling and disarming Kaoru is amazing, these two have become my favorite pairing by far.

Hiroko making so many adorable faces in this chapter. I read the chapter twice in a row to relish them all. Especially the dumbfounded look of Hiroko's face in Ayaka's hand. Hrrngh.

Which would be hard, considering that aside from Earl Sandwich and a few other odds and ends like that, as far as I can remember there have been exactly two guys in this so far, both of them gay, both of them married (to each other), and an idiot couple to boot, so not that likely to be confessing to Ayano.

don't forget kaoru and honoka's cat benjamin, the 3rd named male character in this series. (that isn't a manga character in universe)

I think we can change the title to "spoiling Yoroizuka san" at this point.

the only thing holding this story back a bit is that Kita is very out of the closet in canon. Some lines felt a bit weird because of that.
