I wasn't talking about manga, but about the perception Japanese people at large, even outside of media, have of lesbians. See note at the bottom here: https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/liberty_ch15#5

It's not specific to manga. It's a more general stereotype.

I mean, people who straight-up assume that lesbians are horny and sleep around would generally behave in two ways. They would a) look down on lesbians and not read media about them at all, in which case series like these would be irrelevant, or b) see this as erotic and actively seek out manga featuring lots of hot lesbian sex, like this one, which, as I've pointed out, is a fairly progressive depiction of lesbians exercising sexual agency and indulging in their desires, outside of this chapter (heck, the endgame is our protag reconnecting with the girl she had a crush on). Either way, I don't see lesbians as a whole suffering because of Asumi-chan is Interested in Lesbian Brothels!.

If anything, I'm pretty sure the main demographic for this manga are lesbians who want to read something funny, sexy and heartwarming instead of Blushing Schoolgirl Story #991, so while you claim that 'lesbians are horny and sleep around' is a stereotype, the vast majority of lesbians who actually read it would see it as a USP (if nothing else, the folks on this forum seem to like it). So from a representational perspective, it captures a side of lesbians that's not often covered with the appropriate nuance and empathy, and from an entertainment perspective, it establishes an identity and caters to a market. It'd be different if the manga stated that all lesbians love to cheat and sleep around, because that would be malicious- in this case, the horniness is constrained to an escort service and the women who peruse it (possibly because they can't easily have relationships in ordinary society). It'd be weirder if they didn't have tons of sex.

Lastly, the example you've cited states that the Japanese see lesbians as people who often cheat. Putting aside the accuracy of this claim or the sources that the scanlators used to come up with it, I'd like to point out that this manga doesn't even feature any cheating or infidelity. I get criticizing the non-con part, because that made me wince a bit as well, but the rest of your criticisms are misplaced at best and actively unrelated to the topic at worst.

I must say that going from drawing (not necessarily unjustified) parallels to het NTR tropes, to supposed stereotypes of lesbian promiscuity, was rather a wild cognitive leap.

I've never heard of a promiscuity stereotype for lesbians. It's used by the religious conservatives against gay men in the US, but they seem to leave lesbians alone for the most part (besides the off-hand "eww" comment). As a pansexual, I'm used to having things like how promiscuous and desperate I am thrown at me constantly, but I'm kind of envious of how chill most people are towards lesbians. I've also been reading yuri manga for many years, and I've never even seen such a stereotype mentioned.

^I can say Ive not seen that sterotype in Japanese media really, but I have to a degree from American fiction- mostly stuff written 20ish years ago. I got this impression lesbians were seen as sleeping around with each other all the time, cheating, having multiple partners on the go, the uhaul joking etc, and being incapable of settling down for more than a year or 2.. Not all the time, but I certainly came across some stuff like that back then- not sure how common that idea was with certain groups in America.

But I dont recall seeing it in recent years.. maybe I just read different material in different places and its still out there some, in some countries, not sure..

But I agree i've certainly not seen much/any of that attitude in Japanese media- I kind of got the impression the everyday casually disaproving of yuri kind of attitude you might find in their population, was more along the lines of thinking it was 'playing about' and not 'growing up'.

I sorta blame Deadpool for this, since he's pretty much the most prominent pansexual character in Western fiction (indeed, I actually had to look up a list for other examples). Sadly, most writers don't really engage with his pansexuality on a serious level and just use it as a 'quirky' trait- the majority of his relationships, afaik, are with women, and he mostly just hits on men to intimidate them, which is a standard trope of bad queer writing that still hasn't been phased out because people find it hilarious. I'd warrant that most people who write Deadpool haven't even read about pansexuals, and assume that they're different from bisexuals because they're super-horny and will try to hump anything that moves, which is a pretty shitty assumption to make. Most pan folks I've encountered on the internet are largely wholesome people who tend to be particularly inclusive, and there's so much scope for exploring pansexuality in fiction. Lastly, the Wikipedia page for 'List of fictional pansexual characters' lists Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura as pansexual, since the creators have stated that she 'doesn't see gender as a barrier to romantic attraction'. She'd make a much better pan icon than Deadpool, to say the least.

Stereotypes I've seen as an American:

"What do lesbians drive for the second date?" "A moving van."

"What do gay men drive for the second date?" ""What second date?"

And something about bisexuals being promiscuous.

I haven't seen any stereotypes for pansexuals, because I've hardly seen anything about pansexuals, or how they differ from bisexuality.

Pansexuals are simply able to be attracted to anyone, no matter their sex or gender. Bisexuality as a term just means that someone is attracted to more than one sex or gender, but not necessarily all. I called myself bisexual until I found out that the word pansexual exists, and what it means. So the stereotypes for pansexuals are basically the same as for bisexuals, but homophobes regard us as even worse, since we are able to be attracted to trans, non-binary, and pretty much everyone else they regard as "lesser" or "mentally ill."

This is a surprising little tid bit. It's good to know that all those yuri ships involving Sakura are just as possible as the non-yuri ships, cannon wise

Okay but can we talk about how cute Asumi-chan is?? Like, one of the sub-themes of this story seems to be that she’s basically catnip for tops, and while that’s not exactly a unique premise, but what sets this apart is how well she carries that roles. She’s kind of sweet and innocent, but she’s also a horny; she’s emotionally open, brave, an enthusiastic participant, and really sensitive, which some characters have remarked is exciting because it makes topping her really satisfying.

Basically, unlike many manga with this premise, the writing (dialogue and body language) of the character actually justifies why she gets so much attention, above and beyond the whole brothel thing. It’s really cool!

...ah, my gay gushing has turned into literary analysis again. Oops.

Ah yes, Japanese puns, the highest form of, “damn I’m never goin to fully appreciate this content.”

Catnip > cat > tops
There’s always a bigger fish

It's not often that I find myself giggling out loud reading manga. This one, as silly as it may be, got me like this.

Chapter 4 is out and has been translated to Spanish.

Asumi keeps trying one lesbian sex worker after another. This time, she hires a girl who is just starting in the job: Asumi is her first customer. She's the same kind of girl as Asumi (cute, shy, polite) and their clumsy lovemaking is so awesome for both of them that you kinda get angry when they don't become girlfriends at the end.

But then again, this is what makes this manga different. The oldest cliché in stories about yuri prostitution is to have the customer and the paid girl fall in love in the final pages. In this series, Asumi keeps banging new girls and, no matter how much they enjoy themselves, they always go their separate ways in the end. You have to admit it's a more realistic take.

I left the link to the translated chapter in this here post.

Read it in Spanish, get what you mean. In another manga they would've gotten together and the ho girl would have dropped her job. But there are lots of those already, this manga at least has originality going for it; we didn't really need another story of prostitute meets client, falls for client, stops selling herself, happy end.
Well not until Asumi finally meets her fated sweetheart Mai I mean. XDD

While we were watching one of the most vanilla scenes around, there was some hardcore upside down crucifixion play happening right next door :))
And if the ratio of pages depicting sex increases any further in the next chapters, I suppose a Moderate amount of sex tag might be warranted.

The definition of f*cking my way to the top. I’m rooting for you. How many more lesbians until she gets to the Boss level lesbian? Let’s stay tuned.

Plot twist: the boss level lesbian isn't Mai, it's senpai.

Senpai is into some hardcore stuff. Guess it makes sense with her "research material" from a previous chapter. I almost thought we were getting top Asumi there but she's not quite the switch yet. Meanwhile her partner Ena is quite the power bottom. The sex was definitely lewd but just had that level of wholesome to it. As others have said, it wouldn't be out of place as a couple's first time in the usual romance manga. I just love this manga. Sex work needs to be portrayed more positively... If only real life could be so wholesome
