Slightly weak chapter IMO. It made me feel like, rather by showing, the author is "telling".
There's a little bit of inconsistency there in Maki's character as everyone else has already pointed out. I don't want to judge too quickly and too harshly cuz the cliffhanger in the chapter serves as a saving grace, for me. So it's safe to assume the story will bounce back beautifully and there's going to be a lot of pleasing twists and turns (I like the premise of the story and the earlier chapters so I'm still sticking with this).
