They have tailored a reputation for being hardasses, and part of that is looking tough. It's probably a habit that carries over. Though in this particular case, they're also probably both annoyed by this whole social media thing.

This story is actually... really fucking boring. The MC's are so bland and the conflict is non-existent.
That’s kind of why I like it though! Most people’s stories aren’t that dramatic, really. I think characters trying to grow up while not really knowing how or why or what they’re aiming to become is really relatable and kind of funny and sad. But maybe I’m projecting ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Coming from someone who is anti-social, there's never a right way to handle that situation. People won't believe you when you tell them you don't have [insert whatever social media platform here] anyway. That said, #bear-chan4life.
