Here's to hope they would communicate for real and not just via musical instruments. T-T

That's a bold move Mitsuki. I wonder if the anime will get to these parts and we'll get to hear the music leading up to this. Can't wait to see her reaction now; I'm not expecting it to be straightforward, though I'm expecting a definite "yes." Maybe not immediately. The brother for a show. His reaction will be something to watch for, depending on how Aya responds.

Also, they're new friends who have crushes on them both witnessed that. I wonder how they'll react. They both already knew they're feelings were one-sided anyway and both of them seemed intent on doing anything (Shu doesn't seem like she fully understands what she feels yet, for example). Still, I wonder how they'll respond.

Isn't that Aya's mum that drops the glass on the last page? - she comes into the bar with Amu on page 2
If so she's going to have to go hat shopping, lol

The marriage proposal surprised me (in a good way), but let's calm down. Aya has to respond to the proposal, and maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea if she said “Not yet.” That would give them both time to work on communicating with each other, reflect on the mistakes they've made, and deepen their relationship. This would help them gain maturity and confidence, and their relationship would become much stronger. They would then be much better prepared to face life together without doubts, a lack of communication, or fear causing their bond to crumble like a house of cards.

(I let out a "SQUEEEEEE!!!!" on the last page, so I'm the first one who needs to calm down)

Mitsuki's problem is that she can't play the music she wants in Japan. Out of Japan, the problem is solved.

I don't know why people assume that because rock is not mainstream in Japan, it's not popular. The indie scene is super active. She could definitely find her place there, especially in the underground/indies communities.

It's entirely possible that the next arc will be about them in the US. But it wouldn't be because of that.

Absolutely—these two always connected via music playlists, sharing earphones, home-made albums, etc. A lot of readers seem to want to be mental health/healthy relationship counselors, with some defining anything other than textbook optimally mature social behavior as “toxic.”

It’s remarkable how many people have gotten this far in the series and still think of very-special-episode-drama heart-to-heart sit-downs as the only real mode of communication.

I'm gonna guess the marriage arc will be in the US, given that Joe is there, it's legal, and also to possibly push her forward in her music journey.
Mostly just curious if they will whirlwind move or wait till Aya finishes her education.

i'm sorry, but i swear i can't stand mitsuki. they just found aya's brother, and out of nowhere the solution is... she starts singing and propose to aya? i know it sounds like a stupid complaint, but ever since they became adults, the manga has been inconsistent, leaving plots or themes behind out of nowhere. this is the last straw.

i understand that this is important for mitsuki's depression and all that... but i seriously don't understand. i don't understand why one thing after another keeps happening.

i feel like i have nothing left to expect from this series; the main problem (and the title of the series) was resolved many chapters ago. perhaps i only keep reading it because i admire the artist and her style, but the story no longer makes much sense to me...

I have a feeling the anime will mainly cover up to the prom scene where they kissed. I can’t remember the exact details in the manga been a while, but assuming if the anime will be 12 or 13 episodes, I could see the confession happening around episode 11 or 12, with the season ending shortly after they start dating. Hopefully, that leaves room for a Season 2 to adapt the rest of the story.

(If there is a Season 2, like for example how "there’s no way I’ll be Your Lover, Unless"... received a lot of praise and even got a sequel, so with the rise of yuri anime, a second season could definitely be likely for green yuri. But that’s a different discussion.)

Mind blown when I saw the proposal lol. No way Aya accepts it when it came out of nowhere after weeks of fighting and with zero prep and foresight.

Don't do it, Aya! Not like this XD at least have a proper conversation first lol

Sure, in fantasy land, that is something that could work. But Arai-sensei have been showing us some real life problems, so I expect some real life solutions. Depression, self image issues, miscommunication, jealousy... Sure, let's play some music and do as if none of that ever happens... Honestly, it's almost an insult to people dealing with those issues.

It's not like I expect them to go to therapy, but some acknowledgment about what have been happening would be a start. You can't in one hand presenting to the reader real problems, in a realistic fashion, and expect them to accept a resolution such as "let's play music and get married".

Well, actually you can expect that. But that's cheap imo.

I do acknowledge that there have been some conservation about the "toxicity" of their relationship (damn I don't like that word), and it has gone way to far, but they have been dealing with issue serious enough that music communication can't magically solve. Mitsuki have had issue with self image since the beginning of the manga for example. Given it has resurfaced again, it's worth addressing this issue properly.

I perceive this as that playing music allows Mitsuki to articulate something that has been bothering her—it just all boils up to the surface. This is the beginning of a new and necessary conversation, not a Hollywood ending.
Also, while I’m grateful for the comments in this community, and the perspectives they offer, I also rather dread how people are going to want to have a particular outcome, and get really angry about anything that diverges from that. And yet it is good for me to see contrary opinions, and I hope that such commenters can stick with the story and trust that Arai-sensei is at least going to be true to Arai-sensei’s feelings and sense of how it must go.

They haven't even fixed their issues or is her randomly picking up the guitar here and singing supposed to be the be all end all fix? Yet she wants to get married lol?

I do agree that a marriage proposal is not going to fix their issues and a lot of work needs to be done, however, I also think this is an important step in fixing some of those things.

What the marriage proposal (hopefully) says is that Mitsuki isn't going anywhere. She's not going to retreat or runaway like her Uncle did with Kanna. She's saying to Aya that she wants to be there for her for the long haul. Mitsuki is saying that she wants to work on these issues together. I am hoping that this is a step in that process.

And to be fair to Mitsuki, she often works on her issues by herself and it takes her a while to get to the same place as Aya. So ch 168 was her buying new music and in ch 169 she's listening to music with Aki. She's was making steps towards getting over some of her issues, and Aki going missing kinda pushed her forward several steps in the process. I don't think that solves everything, not at all, but the marriage proposal could also be seen as Mitsuki saying to Aya even if it takes me some time to get back to myself I'll still always be there for you.

Of course, this could just be my wishful thinking. It will depend on the follow up. I'll be kind of annoyed if this is the solution to everything.

Mm I have a different perception about this, in my view this IS a Hollywood ending that will fix everything (not everything everything but similar when they show you a monologue saying “we still have our ups and downs but”) and for me, that it’s completly in line with how this manga is, so I disagree with both, people complaining about a lack of communication and people saying this manga with deal with it in a adult/mature way and that the marriage proposal is not presented as a fix
Arai is a fan of western stuff (westaboo? I think they are called), she probably likes those 80’s rock and roll USA movies. This is cute and in line with this manga and it’s the intention of this moment imo.

We'll see. But to me it seems like an impulsive attempt to tie Aya to her, fighting her insecurities. If anything, this might spark a real "divorce arc" as in Aya distancing herself.

Mitsuki's color came back... aww.

Well, this is clearly gearing us up for the end. Whether or not Aya accepts the proposal, I think they'll still happily come together. If I know anything about lesbians, they're quite eager to marry each other for better or worse -- I mean, they've been together for years at this point, but still. So I'm not surprised if Aya turns her down (probably not), but even if she does it's not the end lol. Just depends on the angle Arai Sumiko wants.

That's gonna be tough. You know, petitioning the government, having them vote on legalizing same-sex marriage, and of course the solving all-important decision to keep either a dog or a cat for a pet
