See, Aki-kun isn't a side story, he's the one who will help solve their problems this time.
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how he responds to all this. He's idolized their relationship and perspective quite a bit. Tough going for a while for him.
still not over the fact that mitsuki abused that child's sister lol
People just log in here and type anything. By this logic, any time a couple fights, it should be labeled "abuse".
They only log in to make these ambiguous comments hoping that someone will bite and they'll have another excuse to talk about it. Better to leave it be.

mitsuki what the fuck
I should give this another chance, stopped reading because the MC looks like a deadbeat but that's just my dumb ass assumption and I shouldn't have those. Also, it's funny how they talk about dadrock like it's the heaviest shit. Maybe it's different in Japan but the music they listen is pretty mainstream.

I did a little fist pump at the NIN mention and immediately deflated that the kid wasn't allowed to watch... Closer? I guess that one would come up on autoplay or as recommended. And I don't think any of the others could be that objectionable? Aside from the whole Broken film. But it's not like that one is fun to watch casually anyway.
And honestly? Given how Joe and Kanna worked things out, I cannot believe Mitsuki gave him that response. While "everything" may be a broad spectrum, there are still better ways to phrase it.
Closer is one of the dirtiest songs ive heard on the radio. The F-word was obviously edited out but the meaning was still crystal clear.

It was probably "Closer," because of the nudity, but they do get much worse. The actual music video for "Happiness in Slavery" is just a guy on a table being tortured. And yeah, the sequence in the Broken movie where "Gave Up" plays is probably one of the most grotesque sequences I've ever seen. 0/10, would not recommend. Watch the actual "Gave Up" music video where a makeup-less Marilyn Manson pretends to play the guitar instead. It's also got Richard Patrick (from Filter, before Filter) on guitar and Chris Vrenna on drums.

ngl i'm so done with people going "Oh but this is actually so mainstream!" like, maybe consider people whose first language isn't english won't be exposed to these musicians. the funny Radiohead panel is amusing out of context, but it makes sense. they're not in an english-speaking country, it's like telling someone "oh yeah my favorite musician is Mariya Takeuchi!" but you're talking to an average person from germany or argentina or something. they're gonna look like you just said a magical spell

And even if we were in a Western country, Radiohead isn't mainstream, especially among Gen Z or younger. Rock in general is not as popular among young people as it used to be. It's also been a literal plot point in this manga that Aya and Mitsuki listen to music that no one else their age listens to.

Pretty sure they're referring to the time Mitsuki slept with Aya while Aya was drunk. But to me, this just shows that the poster has never been in a committed relationship, because most couples give each other pre-consent for that kinda stuff. I've definitely had drunk sex with my committed partner before, and no, I didn't feel like I was abused lol
i told myself i wouldn't respond if someone else did, but oh well, i couldn't keep my word.
if those are your standards, that's fine, but it was never okay to take advantage of someone who was drunk for sex, which is what happened and the author chose to forget. (it's even worse if the drunk person doesn't remember what happened, as seems to be the case with aya).
well, i guess we all have different interpretations of the situation, but i still don't have any hope for mitsuki after that :/
edit: and i'm even less inclined to swallow the propaganda that "mitsuki is depressed and needs to touch her girlfriend"... sorry, but in stable relationships, you talk before having drunk sex (just one drunk person, in this case)
No but I'm so glad you pointed this out, I feel like we just glossed over it. AYA DOES NOT REMEMBER A THING FROM THAT NIGHT. And that is where the issue lies. It's weird. I hope it gets addressed.

Do you mean we the readers glossed over it? Or do you mean the manga? Seeing as the manga was the one that mentioned it, it's going to come up again. As far as readers, I'm not sure what sort of response you're looking for. Going back to ch 167 Mitsuki didn't want to sleep with Aya, she did it because Aya wanted to. It's not an ideal situation, but it doesn't read as abuse to me.

Also ch169 pretty clearly states that what Aya can't remember is between getting drunk at the bar and being placed on the couch by Mitsuki. She doesn't remember leaning on her friend's shoulder or Mitsuki bringing her home, but her memory comes back to her after she gets home.
So there was no abuse whatsoever, people are just overreacting for replies.

the fact that aya "wanted" that was precisely because she was drunk, and yet mitsuki did it :v
it's clear that it might be a bit of an exaggeration to say it was outright abuse, but having sex with someone drunk (just one drunk person) will never be ethical or right. ignoring it and saying it was a mutual decision is like you really didn't understand anything about that chapter... and the worst part is that it seems the author didn't either LOL
So you don't believe in pre-consent, huh

I just think it's too much of a black and white to say "will never be ethical or right". Of course it's wrong if they're incoherent, slurring and stumbling, etc. But if they're coherent, like Aya was, consent can be given while under some amount of influence. If you and your partner go out and one of you is the designated driver and the other is drinking, they can still consent when they get back home. I'm also not saying these situations are 100% right, I think they're ambiguous. And if we look back on ch. 144, it's pretty normal for them to have sex while Aya is tipsy to drunk while Mitsuki is sober.

uhhh no... i'm sorry, but even under that logic it's still not right. those are my principles, at least.
I think we can all agree that readers who do not wish to have sex with Aya when she’s been drinking should be free to not do that.

I think we need a few more pages of debate before I can agree to that actually. I guess they got their "bite" though.

I'm honestly still surprised that this topic is so divisive. For a grounded story to have a couple fighting and having communication issues, and then they have sex while one is a lot more drunk than the other, it just...rubs me the wrong way personally. Last time I deleted my thoughts on the subject because I didn't want to argue about it and it looks like that was right call, with how people are very much just not going to agree on this subject.

It is disturbing to witness the scene, but in the reality of a couple's life, this is the kind of things that happen, and it's not really a problem... Unless it is. If one of them is inconfortable having sex while only one of them is altered, that's an issue. If one of them is being forceful, or asking advantage of the drunk partner, that's an issue but it's clearly not the case here.
Aya is also getting drunk quite ofte, so that type of situation must happen fairly regularly. She is also the one who initiates in that case (it doesn't look the case as first, but looking at the panel one by one, she is the one dragging Mitsuki to her).
Personally, I'm much more disturb by the state of mind of Mitsuki while having sex, rather than having one of them being drunk.

With the first page I thought MitsuAya had another fight. Glad it was just Mitsuki talking to her guitar.
And the way I immediately became concerned with Aki-kun watching Nine Inch Nails??? Good thing she stopped that right away. I still remember how, as a kid, I somehow got a bit interested in metal music but then got traumatized with a NIN music video haha! That made me back off for many years until I rediscovered my interest in this genre just a few years back.
Anyway, I love how Mitsuki has become Aki-kun's safe zone, enough for him to seek her out when he's upset. I hope he slaps talks some sense into Mitsuki. Let his agitation become her wake-up call not her excuse to say goodbye.
I still wonder tho if there's a deeper meaning on why this love thing is suddenly such a big deal for Aki-kun. Is he gay? Or is it just that he's now seeing the social prejudices after being raised in such a healthy environment?

Us readers. And some are even defending it. It feels so unsettling that people don't care enough. She literally has no recollection of what happened, she consented very drunkenly. And the state of mind of Mitsuki accepting her advance is out of pure jealousy and fear that she will no longer hold worth for Aya because a big connecting part of their relationship, music, is teetering. And yeah, Mitsuki didn't seem like she wanted to. One is incoherent, the other is stirring in turmoil. They're both so clouded. As previous readers state, it's not black and white. I think the author is displaying how miscommunication (or no communication at all) in a relationship affect sexual aspects in a toxic manner. This was suppose to be uncomfortable, we were suppose to be disgusted. At the act, not a specific person. To define these actions to be abuse? Eh. But to defend it and call it consent, and how their relationship is like, like they have drunk sex often, Aya gets drunk a lot-- is dismissive and minimizing. This is not about their couple habits, but more people's attitude towards it, or how we treat it.

Nah fosho. I think debate and discussion is fun, we don't gotta all agree. I wouldn't call it arguing, idk why people are quick to shut it down. Maybe it's because online through words, I personally read all of these comments in a Ace attorney way, all silly and unserious. It's also interesting to see where people draw boundaries. Our definitions of abuse, SA, consent varies, and how comfortable we are with intimacy if other factors are involved. In media SA is often depicted as forceful and violent, consent has to be straight forward and clear cut. This kinda can be perceived as a grey area, where people have to think harder about using labels to describe this scene, the line blurs and there isn't a perfect label. There are many factors involved you have to take into consideration. The fact that it's divisive proves this in a way.
Mitsuki should let Aya about what went down last night, just the fact that she doesn't remember is the most disturbing part (imo), and that is by influence of alcohol. They probably will talk about it some chapters in the future.

This is after the Tanabata festival filled with romantic themes where he witnessed once again how beautiful his sisters relationship is. It's not unexpected that he might have romance on his mind still, of course before his friends' responses caused some complications. I do sense some potential with Aki's best (?) friend but we'll see about that. There's a few other reasons for why he could be the focus.

There are personal opinions and there is the narrative that the author is crafting. These are two different things.
Aya craving physical intimacy when she is drunk has been established by the author as a typical and accepted part of the relationship. If anyone feels uncomfortable with that, it’s okay. But the author has gone out of their way to establish this pattern as a norm in their relationship.
That entire scene we are all remembering seemed dark because what we were witnessing was Mitsuki self-abandoning and giving Aya what she thought Aya wanted out of fear of losing her. She felt that giving Aya sex was necessary because if she couldn’t even do that Aya would leave her for the friend from the party.
Sometimes I really do wonder if we are all reading the same manga.

Weirdly this makes me think Riku might be in the closet. It doesn't seem like any of the other friends had that thought, but Riku seems to think that because Aki's sister is gay that Aki could be too, and he subtly pushed him off. Some internalized homophobia perhaps? It's a possibility anyway.
Funnily enough, this arc reminds me of someone complaining about this manga not being realistic enough because it never addressed homophobia explicitly and directly. I don't think this makes the manga more realistic or better, but I do like this plotline. Middle school is rough no matter the culture, and I assume Aki is in middle school. It just sucks there.
Poor little bro.
