Fuck me, literally first time ever Kodama Naoko actually starts fleshing out a plot and then this happens

And honestly it makes no sense, it should end with both going their separate ways: Blondie returning to her loveless, but socially aceptable, marriage and brunette moving on with her life, I mean that's realistic and human after all

For good or bad (good for me), despite her reputation for messy drama, Kodama rarely ends her stories with misery or some mono no aware ass bittersweetness - things always work out for the heroines.

Kinda felt like this one was wrapped up a little too neatly. I would've liked it if they had at least one really messy sexual encounter before getting their feelings sorted.

Damn, was not expecting such a cute ending. Maybe a tad rushed, would’ve liked to see them spend more time together but still cute

I kinda wanted to see them kiss ngl

Honestly I probably would've settled for that even. I feel like I was just served a nothingburger after nearly 2 volumes of teasing and buildup.

Was it axed? I liked the ending but it felt a bit rushed. And I wish we could've seen at least the honeymoon too.

oh men, it ended so fast >.> i enjoy only reading the comments cuz i won’t read anything from this author, BUT the comments give me enough content instead of the manga

It did end fast, but the mangaka managed to end it properly.

Kinda felt like this one was wrapped up a little too neatly. I would've liked it if they had at least one really messy sexual encounter before getting their feelings sorted.

If they had done that, they'd have ever kept the llngering dout of whether they were together out of mere convenience. Have her sort her life without Rei's help before that happens, even if off-panel, and now there's no such doubt.
This was, plainly, the only possible good ending, the one that the mangaka had planned.
And I even think that making it happen off-panel is actually BETTER than watching it happen.

The one thing that LOOKS rushed is they actually getting together after that, with they talking out how NOW she can actually accept the offer to stay without that doubt - if that option is still on the table, or even maybe proposing herself instead. It could have been a quite interesting scene. Plus the obvious sexy scene - this time without it feeling incredibly wrong. Now THAT I feel was... not the mangaka's best choice not to show.

That ending was kinda.... whelming. I'm glad that Gotou got her life together and divorced the guy

This feels like a rushed ending but it was a complete resolution and, honestly, very good compared to some of the other non-rushed endings we've had lately (cough How Do I cough Get Together cough w/ My Childhood....)

If she'd moved out to stand on her own but they'd kept in touch, it wouldn't feel like an ass-pull. Or even if she'd reached out after a while. Instead they run into each other two years later, at just the right moment, both still available. Lame coincidence plot.

Yay we got a good ending. Naoko is one of the goats of yuri manga I reckon.

Could this have been more fleshed out? Yes but I think this is actually more her style I mean she writes so many stories and leaving the details to the readers imagination just fits within this manga's vibes.

I also I think that taking a break is totally understandable, a person should be able to get their life back on track and feeling good about themselves before seeing other people. Like timing matters a lot.

Also, running into each other after a year or so in a city is not at all unbelievable and I can't understand the idea that it would be. The only thing special is marriage being legalized around the same time but that's part of the fun and is such a small thing in the grand scheme--its a story after all. I also enjoyed the ending. She got enough time to settle her affairs but what I liked the most is she truly did it for herself--she never thought they'd run into each other again.

I was thinking they’d run into each other again, but in professional circles because she had gotten her career going. But as someone who has ran into people from the past in a city several times a street passing encounter isn’t that outlandish to me. It does bookend things in this case too.

This is just so dramatic it almost pissess me off.

Wtf do you mean "That's why I've decided to go back"? After saying you're happy when Gotou-san ask you not to leave too.

It's one thing, if she had said " I want some time for self discovery or time to figure out things". Saying she wanted to go back without context feels kinda toxic.

Not the worst ending by any stretch, but unsatisfying.

Something being likely or possible doesn't mean it makes for good storytelling. Having them coincidentally meet up again while they're both single and now ready for a relationship felt lazy to me.

Yeah, that.

The wife shut things down with the MC (a woman who showed caring for her a lot), then got lucky 1.5 years later with the MC still being available. Feels unearned.

Whole thing is author fast-forwarding to a happy ending, but like I said, it'd be less dramatic coincidence if wife had moved out to be independent but kept in touch.

It’s kinda weird going from the incredibly pessimistic first chapter to this downright cheery ending. The reason this series grabbed me was that news broadcast in chapter 1 completely selling the miserable attitude of the MC. Closing it out with a callback to that where gay marriage passed is surprisingly optimistic from this mangaka.

But she’s also a gay woman living in Japan, maybe she just wanted to write an optimistic ending. Can’t say I blame her the way the world is going.

I'd forgotten how it all started. So I guess "bump into each other in a crowd" makes for some narrative symmetry/bookends.

But as actual in-character decision-making, up and disappearing seems poor to me.

I like happy endings though I also understand the people saying they're not satisfied with this one.
