Thanks for explaining. I had a suspicion that her last name played some part in inspiring her nickname, but wanted to be sure. The other "Zuka-chan" I'm familiar with is Shirobako's Shizuka Sakaki- "Zuka-chan" to her yearmates Aoi "Oi-chan" Miyamori and Ema Yasuhara(no nickname), and "Zuka-chan-sempai" to her kohais Misa "Mii-chan" Toudou and Midori "Ri-chan" Imai.

My guess is the author didn't want to portray weight loss as a necessary thing for one's self esteem, so they tried have their cake and eat it too and played it off for laughs. A bit clumsy maybe, but I honestly like it better than a lot of those shoujos where the protagonist "becomes beautiful," and then everything is great for them.

Ruka said she'd be more pleasant to hug when she's chubby, means that Ruka "hugs" Ritsu on daily basis.

I thinks it makes sense, the only reason she started dieting is cuz she wanted to impress her old classmates, it's clear through the story that Ritsu doesn't enjoy her new lifestyle and is more confortable being chubby.
And when her old classmates enrolled on the same college and they started spending a Lot of time together, probably was easier for Ritsu be herself around them

I enjoyed this tbh, I hope to see more from this author.

I ended up giving this a miss after the first few chapters. Like, it was a food yuri, and to enjoy that I would need either some yuri or I'd need to enjoy the food, and I really didn't see eye to eye with the author's taste in food.
