Wow, it's been a hot minute since I've read something with a character as punchable as the dad here.

wow i shouldn't have read that so early in the morning. im kind of grateful i came out after the family members who would've reacted like that already died so i never had to deal with it, but it still hits way too close to home. i hope she's allowed to be herself by the story's conclusion.

i don't know why i put off reading this so long but going through all the chapters so far in a couple hours was a hell of an experience. definitely subscribed now. i love how flawed and multifaceted everyone is, like they truly feel like real people that we get this window to peek in at. current arc with her little... sister, i guess? is very compelling, and i want that kid's dad to get the shit kicked out of him asap.

also very much appreciate how grounded and realistic the age gap dynamic is, and how they're both childish and mature in ways that often clash. i enjoy age gap yuri a LOT but it's rare i read something that portrays it with this much teeth. huge thanks to the scanlators, i'll have to show the author my support too

trans rep in yuri is always so nice to see even if the poor girl is going through hell right now. Xingyuan seems to be supportive of her, and the story is definitely framing her dickhead father as the bad guy so at least she has that going for her

I feel like we do need some kind of phobia tags and/or bigotry for a chapter like this. The warning would be nice with how hard this chapter is to read.

I mean, we knew these parents were bad, but not that bad... Although based on the flashback bit, mom at least did care about the daughter they gave away, unlike the rest of the family doing their worst to convince her to give it a rest.

I think the mother might care but doesn't know how to speak up or act against the other members of the family, usually due to family hierarchy, and I'm guessing this is a very patriarchal family. Not to say that lets her off the hook but it could explain her circumstances at least.

I'm reminded of the recently translated Homecoming story and the epilogue.

Those parents are complete assholes. Xiaoyang is my favorite character of this series, so it's nice to finally reach these chapters.

She also never really gets a word in during this scene and looks just as scared to speak up.

I think the author/character/person decides that (and I don't think Xiaoyang changes what language they use or how they see themselves).

Oh my god I'm so glad our mc is no longer part of that pathetic toxic family I hope her brother can also find his way to get out of that hell hole.

Fell in love with this yuri from day 1 for the hand-drawn watercolor, then the flirty main duo, then the angst, then introducing me to 'brownie band', and now this trans kid arch? Wholesome, troublesome, beautifully done where mc cares for their sibling but it's wrapped up in angst with adoption trauma.

Also im confused >> is haircut scene cirrent? Or is this one big flashback to how we got Xiaoyang (kid) into this town? Looks like the same hair but i might need to go back. If it is a flashback, it sounds like mc already knew their sibling was trans or questioning and had something to do with the cross-dressing booth to help them come out or try femme gender expression publicly.

I know right? When your kid's stupid sexist school is bullying your child with their stupid sexist rules, as a parent it's your fucking job to stand by your kid's side and defend them, not to join in the bullying, you bloody cheesehead scrotumwasher.

Xiaoyang is a favorite of mine. He goes through quite a bit but finds somewhere to be himself and crossdress freely. Xiaoyang's "Call me Great Uncle!" line is funny but also telling since Xiaoyang is clearly expressing himself here; also anything to be like his sister. That friend must go through a daze having to deal with these two siblings though. This town really has become a refuge and place for free expression and that's part of what makes this series tick. Needless to say, their parents such ass.

This seems like a flashback?

It's a flashback to when Xiaoyang first went to find his sister and was taken in by the town. The idea is Xiaoyang has been coming back ever since because the town allows Xiaoyang to crossdress as much as he wants and dress freely whether that's in a skirt or whatever the day decides.

Rollercoaster chapter, the first half was horrific, but the second half felt genuinely happy.

It also shows Xiaoen as very contrasted. She's genuinely, truly helping Xianyang here - but as seen in previous chapters, when it comes to matter of family, responsibilities based on age and such, she sometimes steps back. It's interesting to see someone who's a great ally... but isn't always an ally, either.

man the start of that chapter fucking sucked to read, i hope xioyangs father kills himself. i cant tell if the narrative is trying to frame xioyang as a trans woman, or if theyre legitimately just a cis boy who likes wearing womans clothing (personally i think the second option would be much weaker but ill admit im biased)

Well from my memory of the series and what the TL has also recently said, Xiaoyang always uses male pronouns to refer to himself and uses other male terms, plus doesn't react negatively when called as such. In this chapter the friend jokes about Xiaoyang being a "little sister" and he gets upset and responds "call me Great Uncle," which is not really ambiguous to me. I don't think it's weaker since a cross dressing boy who likes women's clothes is still a very daring topic there but I get what you mean, coming from a personal place to you.

Seems to be because Xiaoen is also a victim and at times defaults to self preservation over being a complete ally to Xiaoyang. This chapter shows Xiaoen does help him be himself, free to dress as he pleases and be comfortable. She's done so for a long time but there's a tension between helping others and helping herself that isn't easily released. They've both got trauma and that makes things messy but I think Xiaoen has done a lot considering.

i just fundamentally disagree that xiaoyang getting defensive over being identified femininely by others is demonstrating she is not trans fem lol. Eggs / in denial trans fems tend to not like getting clocked socially, esp by strangers / less familiar or safe people. Not having a response to masculine terms is itself another defense mechanism to hide from the possibility of being outed in some kind of way.

you cant put a forced haircut scene right before a "feels gender euphoria in the mirror for the first time by seeing herself with a feminine haircut" scene directly after each other and then go "uhhhh idk bog standard run of the mill femboy stuff teehee theres no such thing as a trans woman."

I go by what Xiaoyang refers to himself as (in private and public) and what Xiaoyang continues to do for the rest of the series, which seems the typical thing to do for someone, character or not. If things ever change (which from my memory they do not), I would be fine altering language but as of now Xiaoyang identifies as someone who loves crossdressing and feels comfortable in women's clothing but not necessarily anything more.

It's not really an attack if the character is a boy who likes women's clothing. There's space for it to develop in whichever way the author intended but I don't remember it developing further and the TL confirmed Xiaoyang uses the same language throughout, privately or publicly. Maybe they could jump in again, if I'm mistaken. I'm aware this is a discussion that happens whenever potential crossdressing comes up, so I'll just bow out after this one. We'll likely have to agree to disagree.
